Drive it easy (stay away from the red line).... vary your RPM's. Staying at a set rpm can be hard on it. Don't ride for to long with out a cool down break... 20minutes down between rides to cool down. Its take quite a while to fully break in but the most of the break in will be done with in the first 100 miles, 90% or so. That being said still take it easy for the first 500 then an oil change to remove any filings.... sooner if you so wish. You can then go a bit hard til your next change.... and you will definately know when your broke in - it is very noticable :) Do it right and you will have a strong long lasting engine!

Actually it says... "Avoid full throttle starts and rapid acceleration during the first 300mile(500kmh)" That's it.

I couldn't find a printed break-in procedure for the Honda, but here are some others...

Break-In Procedure From Suzuki TL1000R manual:
During manufacture only the best possible materials are used and all machined parts are finished to a very high standard but it is still necessary to allow moving parts to "break-in" before subjecting the engine to maximum stresses. The future performance and reliability of the engine depends on the care and restraint exercised during it's early life. The general rules are as follows.

Keep to these break-in engine speed limits:

Initial 500 miles: below 5500 RPM
Up to 1000 miles: below 8000 RPM
Over 1000 miles: below 11000 RPM

Upon reaching odometer reading of 1000 mile you can subject the motorcycle to full throttle operation. However, do not exceed 11000 RPM at any time.

Engine Break-In Procedure for Kawasaki V-twin lawnmower engine:

Poor engine performance can result from improper break-in or incomplete break-in time. Break-in is the period of initial run time that seats the piston rings to the cylinder wall.

New engines need to be run hard, under varying loads for at least 5 hours and may not be completely broken-in until after 50 hours. Follow these guidelines:

    · Run engine at full throttle during operation. Use partial throttle only for 30-60 seconds to warm a cold engine.

    · Run engine under load by mowing, blowing snow, etc.

    · Check oil and coolant (if equipped) levels often. Top off as necessary.

    · Follow the break-in service intervals.

Engine may show these symptoms during break-in:

    · Excess exhaust smoke at startup and during operation.

    · High oil consumption.

    · Low power/compression.

    · Slight surging at full throttle when not under load.

    · Fuel in the oil.

Rider it normal with a few short close to redline runs. The only thing that needs broken in are the rings. The way to do this is to keep varying the rpms to seat them. Try and stay away from constant cruising(rpms) for around 200-300 miles. Keep a way from lugging the motor also. You don't breakin the bearings. The crank doesn't touch them, hopefully!! Otherwise boom.

With todays honing machines with their accuracy and fine stones you can use synthetic. But I'd leave the original oil in and then change it 400-600 miles. Your filter will take care of all the new particles of a new motor.

I've broken in quite a few motors this way and never had a problem.
