Hello everyone, i'm planning of changing my seat and i was wondering if any of the Sergeant or Corbin model are wider taller or any difference with the original ergo? Thank's anyone!
I have a '99 with a Corbin. I don't have the original, so can't compare there. The only complaint I have with the Corbin is that it is pretty wide. It makes my back hurt a little for some reason and I am 6' and have to slide up against the tank to flat foot the bike. Really comfortable and looks good other than the extra width. I have read the stock seat pushes you up against the tank and that the Sargeant is the preferred seat for the VFR.
well putting them side by side and trying to measure thickness, I can't see a noticeable difference. But you can see in the photos, the sargent is noticeably wider. I can tell you if you are used to moving around on the seat a lot, the sargent will be different. It seems to hold you on the seat. I don't know if that's good or bad, or just the kind of seatcover I have, but it's definitely a tamer seat. I just realized you posted this in 6th gen. I should mention my seat is on a 5th gen and I think sargent changed them a bit for the new bikes. I'm not sure if they are still 2 piece or not.
While we are on the topic...does anyone know of a source for Sargent saddles for a 95 VFR750? I have a Corbin on mine, and it seems very slippery. I have not ridden on it enough to comment on comfort.....still waiting for that ankle to fully heal...doh !
But do you think you need to be taller a bit? Because i use to have a Corbin on my old bike and it was wider between legs, so it was a little bit harder to reach the ground. My concern is about the reach to the ground, i'm 5'8" and i'm just fine with the OEM seat. Thank's reg71 for all your help.
You have to worry about the shape too, not just the height. I have a Corbin on mine now, but will be ordering a Sargent soon (bought the bike used, had a Corbin on it). I have short legs, 29" inseam, and generally find the Sargents a much better for fit and comfort -- besides fitting on the bikes better, and having much superior customer service to Corbin (which isn't hard).
Ok, here's my wife sitting on both seats. She's just shy of 5'8" and wearing a normal soled shoe. In both photos she is flat footed and says neither seat feels like she'd be any more uncomfortable at a stoplight, etc... Stock: Sargent: I think you'd be good to go. I don't know the 6th gen difference, though, but it seems like sargent tries to keep PDC to stock size. Oh, I noticed while I had the sargent off that it had a sticker that says atomic gel foam on the underside so you may have to worry about butt radiation.
I'm 5' 7" with a 29" inseam. The Sargent seems to be slightly taller than stock on my '05. However, the shape is completely different. Sort of a bucket that slopes up as it approaches the tank. Net result is no difference in the way my feet touch the ground. I actually thought the factory seat was very comfortable. But the factory upholstery gripped like velcro; made it difficult to move around. And the shape of the factory seat had me constantly sliding into the tank. Sargent solved both problems. The Sargent seat is exceptionally well made. Fits the bike just as well as the factory seat. It does make the factory rear cowl just a tad wider, so you need to press in on the edges of the cowl to clear the grab handles when installing the seat.
