as many of you know, I had a problem with my intake valves sealing, and thus had pretty low compression. I pulled the front head off last night and turns out that I need new intake valves, they are badly grooved. I have been searching high and low for aftermarket valves and have not found any. at 30$ a pop for each intake valve and 40$ for each exhaust valve, that's $560 in just valves for the bike.

Has anyone out there found new valves and were? Or maybe some cross reference # to another bike?

    Thanks!

    valves

I hate to say this but you really should run factory valves. I have installed several different kinds of valves and none have lasted long .Given the cost of head gaskets , valves and other related parts a replacement engine may be the best way to go .

hmm...... well shoot. I really don't know what to do here. all of the motors I have seen for sale are just as bad off as mine. I am starting to get pretty discouraged with this bike. I have a ton of money and hours into this bike already, a bit frustrated.

Where are they grooved at? On the stem or face? If the valve face is bad you should be able to have them reground just like a normal valve job. If it's the stems then your going to need guides also I would think. Even new valves have to be ground on the face along with the seats. Otherwise they won't seal right.

    pinball

I sent a spare head off to pinball a couple of weeks ago to replace one with non related damage. If he will cough up the head he had changed out I will send you the other and at least you can save the cash on the valves. I was also under the belief that factory gen 2 valves had a stellite coating on them and turning them would damage the coating shortening their life span and only the seats could be ground to match the valve face.If ya need em I got em.I did pm him already but maybe a pm from you will help as well.

Toe Cutter: That is great!! how much are you looking at for this helpful transaction?

GreyVF750F: Two problems with re grinding the valves, First they are hardened, and any grinding will remove the end-quench harness on them, making them more ductile, and not last as long. also like toe cutter said, there is a coating, I think ceramic based on the sealing surface to reduce friction, regrinding the sealing surface removes all of this coating. the valve seats are going to be re-ground for proper clearance on my bike. not the best way but it will make it work for now

the stems look great, and the seals are great as well. I think this bike was run too long with the valves in bad adjustment. not to mention no air filter from the P.O.

hopefully I can get it back together and save my pennies for a newer FI VFR with low miles.

    valves

I gave Pinball the head and just asked for freight as I have done for all to this point. If he will give up the one I replaced, as I think he would, I will happily send you the other set of valves for postage. Blow him up and ask him for the valves or the complete head. Let me know what he says.

199q Sorry, thanked Cutter and not you for the info. Didn't know about the coating. Makes sense on those tiny valves.

no problem! I didn't know until my neighbor told me when we were taking the head apart! it is a much cheaper way to make valves, and is done on most late model cars now.

Toe Cutter: I PM'ed Pinball, so hopefully this will work out. thanks! this is such a great help!
