not that you want to see this but my wife thinks its funny to photograph my injuries. Ice packs, compression wraps and my left leg still feels like a fat chick's left leg, it feels huge!

The blood is pooling now and draining down my leg so it looks bad, no shorts at work for awhile. Everything works like it should considering what happened but the orthopod says rest for a couple more weeks.

I'm a charter member of the "How Dumb Can You Be?" club. A couple of weeks ago I pulled into a gas station/mini-mart to get my water bottle out and take a swig or two, and stretch my legs. I put the side stand down, and for some dumbass reason I dismounted on the right side rather than the left as I usually do.

I then let my bike slowly lean onto the sidestand, but it kept going. I didn't have the sidestand fully engaged, and it folded. A slow drop to the asphalt, a scratched slider, a small scratch in the mirror housing, had to readjust the mirror, and a very red face.

A nice guy came right over to help me get upright. I said to him what a dumbass I was. He said, don't worry about it, that he's dropped his bike more than once and he's been riding for many years.

I don't get off on the right side anymore. Could have saved myself some minor damage and a red face if I had made this decision previously.

I dropped my 92 once, the wife was following me in her car and was trying to talk to me at a light, I pulled over at a small side street and did a very slow 180 turn, too slow and too tight. When I was picking the bike up, two guys walked over and said "You need to be careful, do you need help", I said no, and ya I meant to do this (sarcasm)" I was surprised that a 160 pounder like myself was able to pick it up.

It's not a kick stand story, but something I will never do again.

I too always double and triple check my stand.

Yeah...we've all done it. I did with my KLR 650. I was sure the kickstand was fully deployed. It wasn't. At least it was on dirt. Now I always doublecheck it.
My concerns are of slippery or gravelly areas. It is so easy to have a foot slip when doing slow-speed manuevers like backing up. Be very mindful of where you plant that foot!

Sorry. I just have to ask. Knife, why would you get off the right side? I think that I would hurt myself trying to do that seeing as I have always gotten off the left. You sure that was water you were about to take a swig of?

    Funny man, Randy!

I had a tall tail bag on, and it's too high to throw my leg over it. If I exit right by pulling my left leg through, it doesn't hurt like hell as when I exit left and get a huge pain in my hip when I pull my right leg through. But from now on, I'm exiting left no matter what. Hip pain isn't as bad as body panel rash pain.

And I quit drinking long ago, but maybe somebody slipped me a Mickie. Women are always trying to slip rouphies (sp?) in my drinks (I wish).

same exact story for me as the OP, except i also broke off the left side mirror, and i tore my rotator cuff trying to save the bike from crashing down hard.
