Well folks as I announced in chat a few days ago, Little Johnny finally made his appearance to the world last Friday. After just under 8 hours of labor he was born at 4:41 PM, weighed in at 7 lbs 13 ounces, and measured up at 20 inches.

For now I have a cell phone picture, haven't uploaded any from my camera yet. I am supposed to be on bed rest to heal (I actually faired well), but can't quite contain myself to bed. When I am not holding LJ the puppies have been taking up my free time since all but one have gone to homes now. Had to get in all the time I can before they leave!

For those curious as to how the natural labor went, it was a bit more painful than I expected. A lot of people I talked to who've done waterbirth they say once they get in the water the pain almost completely goes away. For me it really didn't seem to help all that much. I pushed for about half of the labor, and once I reached that point I was pretty tired and wanted to lay down. Maybe when his head was coming out the water might have helped more, but I just stayed in bed since I had already made the switch. It was definitely extremely painful (I can't imagine how bad it would have been if I had a bad tear), the pain was gone once he was out. I have been a little sore since then but I hardly notice.

Overall both Johnny and I are very happy we went the midwife/birth center route rather than going to the hospital. No offense to those who work in hospitals on the board, but like a lot of people I really hate going to the hospital. All the hustle and bustle, having unfamiliar people checking in on you, and more bureaucracy. The birthing center is always so peaceful and there are no unfamiliar people. The one we chose has rooms like a 5 star hotel. When we arrived we immediately got to go to the room of our choice (they have three suites, all decorated differently). There was warm water in the tub and the perfect mood lighting. I wish now that I would have taken a photo of the room, I will have to do so when I go in for well baby visits. We had one already, but one of the apprentices came to our home for it.

Some of our family were skeptical and a little uncomfortable with our choice to use a midwife. I think a lot of people don't realize how much training they go through and the great knowledge they possess. A lot of them have even come from other medical backgrounds (one of my apprentices was an ICU trauma nurse for 5 years). They are so passionate about what they do and it really shows. They also support you 100% in the choices you make and your right to make those choices. A lot of the people we know who've had children in the last couple of years didn't even know you could skip the vitamin k, eye drops, etc. that are done after the birth. If we decide to have more children I will definitely be going back, and I will also highly recommend my midwives to everyone who gets pregnant!

My now departed mother used to say that giving birth was more painful than pulling your bottom lip up over the top of your head. And she had eight children! It's a good thing women have the babies; men couldn't handle it.

    Congratulations. Beautiful baby!

    Thanks everyone :)

While it was painful it certainly could have been much worse. There were a couple of times that I really thought to myself that I couldn't do it but I knew I had to hang in there. I understand how a lot of women think that they can't do it, but I would certainly encourage them to try because you would be amazed at what you can do. And it really is true that once the head is out the pain goes away. I was tired and just layed in bed with Little Johnny for about an hour afterwords, I figured I would savor the moment and prepare myself for the pain of getting up and showering. I was pleasantly surprised that the only pain I felt was just tired muscles and the shower melts that away. Lucky for me the pretty tiled floor in the bathroom was heated. hehehe

I hope to get back in the saddle as soon as possible. I'd say a 2-up ride would be soon in my future but Johnny is trading his Buell for a nice Husaberg tomorrow. Not quite intended for two people.

I probably won't be getting my own bike for a while, but then again I am trying to find something that doesn't come up for sale in this area too often (FZR400). There was one recently in RVFR's neck of the woods that needed a rebuild, a steal for 500 bucks. Even if the motor was toast, you could get a 600 motor to put in it and still have a good, inexpensive bike. Of course we would have had the money but it had just went to something for the Corvette and a couple days later when payday rolled around it was already long gone. As much as I miss riding though, I do have someone more important to attend to. Isn't parenthood about learning patience anyways? :pout:
