I've just installed the mounting hardware for the OEM Sport Touring Trunk on a new 2008 VFR. I've carefully gone through the manufacturers instructions and everything fits. That said, I notice the plastic rear carrier base that the Trunk sits on has some slight side to side play in it. It's very slight and you need to physically apply pressure to get it to move but it does move slightly. I've checked everything over and all bolts, washers, collars etc appear to be installed correctly. I don't want to tighten the socket bolts too much because there is a torque spec on them. Can anyone tell me if the carrier base is supposed to have some slight movement against the carrier bracket in the event the top case was to rub against something (ie. some degree of play is required to avoid cracking/damage if the top case comes into contact with a fixed object).

    Thank you

im not sure about the orm one, but my Krauser has a slight movement to it as well.
never had an issues with it, and i have had it loaded down pretty good, and i also have a pad on it for my wife to lean up against. so it has some weight in it, and pushed against it.

I'm pretty sure mine ('07) has some slight slop in it too. Those installation directions, at least the ones that came with mine left some to be desired, as it seemed to be some generic installation instructions and hardware from givi, and then Honda modified some of the instructions and subsituted some hardware.

    Instructions

Thanks for the reply ... and yes I agree. The OEM instructions for the top case are very poor and they're even worse for the saddle bags. I have to say that the saddle bag instructions are the worst I've ever seen. It took lots of patience and mechanical know how to install them properly. With respect to the slight play in the top case, I can't see any way around it given the low torque spec on the nuts and the fact that the system is set up with nylon washers against the plastic top case platform.
