If everyone is not afraid to admit their less proud moments, what is the worst squid moment that you have had.

Mine was somewhat recently, I didn't realize it but had pulled out in front of someone. He stuck his head out of his window and hysterically yelled at me. I sped around him and got away from the guy.

Not my proudest moment, but i had to get away from the guy. I turned off of the road shortly after.

Last weekend it was hot and I had been working in the yard. Decided to cool off by taking a quick ride on the VFR to the local convenience store for a 6 pack. Wearing my goofy shorts, tee shirt and tennis shoes, I added a real goofy 3/4 helmet that I apparently forgot to throw away when Reagan left office. No other bikers waved at me...no wonder! I respect myself almost as much as that apehanger dude when I do stupid stuff like that.

Just last week I came about an inch away from dropping my bike in deep gravel while turning around in a driveway. I was buying a used car from somebody, of course he and his buddy came walking out and saw the whole thing.

Another time, I had about 4 beers down and had washed the bike, had to give 'er the ole air-dry sans gear of course.

Didn't wear much gear when I first started riding (always had a full face helmet on, never went without).

    Most recent squid moment...

I needed to put gas in the 97 after an oil change so I slapped on my old full face helmet and rode 3 blocks to the busy gas station that alot of beach traffic people are at on a Saturday/ Sunday. Man, if you don't think non-riders don't notice riders that are gear'less you'd be wrong. Never had so many diapproving looks in my life. AND I felt very uncomfortable riding like that. But I had to see how the other half (or more like three quarters) lives LOL!

    That was late last summer.

I had something happen last weekend, not sure if it's really squidly or hooligan though it probably looked that way to watchers. It was quite a bit of traffic and there is a line of cars waiting to turn off a side street. This one car keeps gasing forward and then hitting the brakes every time a car comes by. Then he did it when I rode by and I thought for sure he was going to pull out in front of me so I slammed on the binders and stopped and looked at him. But he stopped and looked at me so I figured I better get moving before I get rear ended. Wanting to get out of there as fast as possible I really laid on the gas and let out the clutch and then realized I was doing a small wheelie, which I had never done before and didn't intend to do but it happened.

The ones I really hate are the cages that want to tailgate especially in twisty areas. You can tell the ones that are trying to show you they can keep up with you. It feels dangerous to try to turn off to let them pass because they're so close but you want to leave them behind in case you have to stop fast so they don't plow into you. Those are tricky situations I find.

I took my bike to work one day and had it parked out front. I recently bought a nice cable lock and put it on my front wheel. I was one of the last ones out that evening and as I took off I found out I forgot to remove the cable lock.

The bike stopped real fast and tipped over as pieces of the front fender went flying. Didn't damage the front disc which was good but my boss got to see the whole thing! He asked if i needed help and I said 'Naw, i got it thanks'. Then i couldn't pick it up the first couple tries so i told myself how embarassing it would be if i left it lying and more people came out. I know i turned red faced on that third try but I got it up.

Yup, stupid. From then on I would attach a piece of black duck tape to the cable lock and when I put it on I would put the duck tape over the ignition to remind me it was still on.

Sounds like ya messed up and got a stern verbal lashing for it. Error made, debt paid. I wouldn't call it a squid moment.... unless of course your were in flip flops, shorts and a t-shirt at the time.

    1. the day I got my brand new R6 in May 2004 (my previous bike was a Yamaha DT175), I let my buddies take me down the spiral highway with my gear consisting of an old cheap helmet that had been thrown around, a windbreaker, jeans and tennis shoes. I had no insurance as it is not required in the state of WA for motorcycles or by the title holder since it was purchased on the Yamaha card.

    2. finding the top speed of 161 mph w/ my leather jacket and new helmet on a public road

    3. doing my first stoppie that I nearly endo'd completely.

those were all done in 2004 before I grew out of that phase. I'm much calmer now on the VFR and the ABS seems to control any stoppie temptations. :)
