A few points I want to mention:

My air filter has never been changed. PO's either didn't realize it had one, or didn't want to dig for it.

My chain has never been re-lubed since initial build by Honda back in '85, and is very loose. Chain wear indicators are useless if a person doesn't ever adjust it.

There was coolant in my oil & oil in my coolant.

The clutch fluid was junk, I'm surprised it worked at all any more, I'm sure the brake fluid will be the same.

And Jamie's call was just about right on the money. I did pull the head cover and the thing did drop a valve. What's left of the valve is jammed in the head. The tip of the valve at the keeper broke off, so one spring and the keeper were laying loose, the other spring is jammed in position. But mine also broke the tip of the rocker arm off as well, just behind the adjuster screw. Both the tip of the valve and the tip of the adjuster are "mushroomed" pretty bad also.

I don't know how many people have owned this bike, but it seems weird to me that somebody would take the time to keep it cleaned and polished, and not have any, or much maintenance done to the thing....

This is definitely going to be a labor of love.

Jeesh, dude... sorry to hear about all that damage.

Have you looked for a whole motor to swap out? I guess they are kinda scarce, eh?

Yeah, I've got a line on a couple of engines, but now I'm back on the fence about fixing it or selling the parts and moving on....

Here's what happened inside of it:

Top view of the head with broken valve and rocker arm. The valve stem itself is stuck in the head-

Bottom head view with wiped out combustion chamber and valve seat-

    And the punctured piston-

THE parts you need are probably not available new, and used parts are risky.

    RIP.....she's done forever !

Doug that looks pretty bad but are the pistons siezed? if not and if there isent any damage to the bottom end you might be able to do a rebuild with new pistons and rings hone the cylenders [find a machinest to do the honeing] and then replace the heads. But what ever you decide to do good luck

i have an extra '85 engine and i'll sell you some parts if you are going to rebuild that but you would be better off buying another motor

keep an eye on ebay for an extra motor because occasionally they will come up but there is no guarantee you will get a running one. i bought a good one for $260 about 2 months ago so just cross your fingers and maybe you'll find one and can get it back on the road!

The engine is seized, and I've been looking at a couple replacement engines because my first choice is not rebuilding this one.

I don't know what the specified valve adjustment mileage is, but this thing has 21k on it and the valves in this head don't look like they've ever been done. There seems to have been some serious maintenance stuff neglected on this bike, so it's going to require more than an engine to get back on the road.

Hell even the air filter appears to be original and looks to have every bit of 24 years of dirt stuck in it...

We'll see what happens next, and thanks for the offers to help.

(BTW, that link is dead now TC)
