I agree with your opinion as a general rule. However, given that he has a bad back making it easier for him might just save his back from going out. His first priority should be his general health. Additionally, the vast majority of time that I need to throw it up on the c-stand I'm at home; I'm getting older but still lift and run regularly so I have no problem doing it w/out the help of the plywood but why make it harder than it needs to be?
