    Here's the story:
Took off the tank, forks, and exhaust to put it on my motorcycle jack so I could change the tires and fork seals.
While it was on there I:
-changed the oil- also put 1/2qt(20% of total capacity like it said on the bottle) of Lucas Oil Stabilizer.
-Reassembled the exhaust with new gaskets
    -Reinstalled the tank
I started it and there was a faint white/gray smoke coming from the exhaust, which gets thick and gray with proportionate throttle inputs.
It's not burning oil or coolant, doesn't overheat, and runs/idles fine with no sputtering, backfiring, ect.

So I removed the tank again and noticed that a vacume line(I think from the oil catch box) was disconnected; so I reattached it to the airbox. Also, I changed the spark plugs and air filter. It still smokes.
The clymers manual said to give it full throttle and shut it off before checking the plugs, and there is a faint gray color on the curved tip of the plug.
    What's going on??:crazy::crazy:
I think either: Something happened to the fuel shutoff valve
or maybe something went bad with the throttle or clutch cable when I removed the forks; although they both still operate as the did before- no binding or any thing.
    Help please!

    White smoke = Oil

    Black smoke = fuel

Wet exhaust = not enough air

Was it smoking before you did this? If not what has changed? Why the Lucas crap in the oil? You don't need it and it's nothing but a top shelf snake oil. Check out the link- http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/images/lucas/lucas.htm
It wouldn't surprise me the Lucas is part of the problem. Something like moisture is in the exhaust system and hasn't burnt out. It may take a 5 or more mile run to do this.

You can not check plugs the way the Clymers manual states. Those manuals are for general maintenance at best. Your throttle, clutch or fuel valve have no bearing on the smoke.

Take the bike out and run it to get the exhaust hot so it can burn anything out that may have gotten in to it. Then see if it still puffs grey. If it still does, dump the Lucas and ride again. Let us know.

I would recommend doing a compression test. and a leak down test if you have the tools. this will help find the problem. does it go away when warm? or is it only show up when warm?

I'm not an old bike expert, but if it was my ride - ditch the oil with the additive - typically its not a good idea to add additives in bikes! Drain it and put in a good quality motorcycle specific dino or semi-synth oil, no full synth for older bikes.

Ok, put the rest of it back together and went for a few mile ride and the smoke is mostly gone.
