I'm picking up a 99 VFR in June, and it comes w/ Heli's.

@ 5'9" I'm not sure I will appreciate the Up & Back, so....
anybody want to sell their OE handlebars for a gen5?

6th bars wont fit a 5th -- the clamp dia on the 6th is 43mm and 5ths are 41mm. Also a goofy tidbit - the 5th bars came with 2 different pin locators to mate up with the upper triple tree. One style has the pins crosswise across the centerline of the forks, and the other style is offset.

I have a set of 5ths and I'm debating whether I want to sell or not. I installed 4th gen bars on my bike currently.

maybe a 1mm sleeve will work inside......but for now, I'm hoping somebody wants to let go of the OE parts for the Gen 5.

index notch differences, too, huh. this is getting better all the time....

hmmmmmm.......nobody willing to commit to Heli?.....give up the stock bars?

I was out yesterday riding great N. Carolina roads and have decided that the Helibars work great for me, so I'd be willing to part with my stock bars. I have no idea what a fair price would be so just shoot me an offer and I'll ship them out.

My fifth gen came with Heli's and I'd kinda like to try the stockers too.

Probably holding on to them the same reason as me....in case I ever sell the bike. I'm holding onto the stock exhaust, windshield, and factory seat cowl for the same reason.
I recommend you give the Heli's a try before you write them off. I'm shorter than you and they work for me.

4th gen bars are sligtly lower and more agresive than the 5th stockers. I thougt of doing the same mod to my 5th gen until I found a good deal on straight oem bars. It suprises me how popular the heli bars are as a mod on these bikes... Dont get me wrong, to each their own but I chose the VFR because I wanted something that was more comfortable than my GSXR but could still perform when you got to those roads that your trip was all about to begin with. I just wish there was equal demand for a lower bar such as the 4th gens with a cleaner look.Whatever the market alows I guess :(

JMO, but if the Helibars are slowing you down on public roads, you need to be on a track. I'm spending a week in N. Carolina and to me the Helibars are a non-issue for corners, but are very nice when you want to so some scenery gawking. Yeah, they do set you up a bit more, but not that much unless you're playing Freddie Spencer on the road. And the little bit of added leverage helps when the pavement disappears and you find yourself on unpaved surfaces.

Of course if you like the looks or they are more comfortable, that's a whole different story.

Okay, I'm here for my helping of crow!! I just got back from several trips up and down The Dragon, and the Helibars make it noticeable more difficult to get down on the bars. Steven113 is more correct than I. It was no biggie yesterday, but today was a whole 'nother story.

For the majority of riding that I do the Helibars are great, it's only a very small percentage of the time they are not the best. All in all I wouldn't go back for that small percentage, but I live where there are no real twisties, if I lived in a different area I would have to weigh my options and I might feel differently.
