I agree about the Camaro in real life, much better looking than the pics.

I have lost interest in a muscle car since the gas prices have gone up. And the 'O' Man is planning on really screwing up the car manufacturers by mandating really high mpg cars. If these little econo-boxes like the Corolla & Civic can only get 35-40mpg, how are they ever going to get the fleet average that high?

kc I do believe the badass ss camaro comes out next year wait for that one. If I am correct that one has a zo6 engine 500 hp.. and all the new ss I think were built to order..Which is the way chevy will need to produce cars now to stay in business; no more 45 cars of everymodel on the lot, a few to test drive and put your order in. less production costs and labor, overhead, storage of parts, etc....... People are not buying autos as much due to they finally figured out not to buy one every 2 years upsidedown maybe pay it off keep it a few years...and yes the cars salesmen are either the stupidest people on earth or just failed politicions full of sheet....sorry to hear about your ss qwest being hualted but that new one would be worth the wait...

Even though I wasn't planning on it, I went to another Chevy dealer today. Same story as the other two. The entire production of the Camaro SS is completely sold & if I want one, I need to order it & this dealer said the wait is OVER 6 months. I going to go ahead & save everyone the time of going to snopes.com: Urban Legends Reference Pages & say this rumor is true. If anyone wants a Chevrolet Camaro SS, the prospects do not look too promising.

Having never been to this dealer, I'll have to take your word for it. Unfortunately, 99.9% of dealers are not this way which is why 99.9% of us hate car dealers.

I wouldn't hold your breath for the "new" Z/28". With the CAFE standards the POTUS & the eco-nazis are promising, NO OEM will be able to build high performance cars that get any MPG under 30. 75% of a OEM's production will need to average in the high 30's & hi perf cars will be reduced to one or two halo models per OEM.

    Chevy will have the Corvette.
    Cadillac will get the CTS-V.
    Ford will have the Mustang.
    Chrysler will have the 300.
    Dodge will have the Challenger.
    Etc...

Trucks as we know them will be history. You can't repeal the laws of physics. A 5600lb truck with a gasoline engine will NEVER get anything better than 25mpg. I got 21MPG from my 1991 Chevy C1500 2WD with the 5.7/350. When I told people that mileage, most were shocked. My F-150 has never topped 19 & averages 15.7.

    Times are a changin'.

Wow, that's nicely done. The only things I would point out would be they were drving like old ladies over a pre-determined route. In the real world that the rest of us drive in, you could probably average in the high 40's all day since VW diesels are very well know for great MPG. I rented a 7 passenger VERY small VW diesel mini van during my last TDY to Germany. I got 42MPG without any regard to efficiency. I just drove the thing, filled it up & calculated the numbers.

When it's time for a new car, it's about 75% likely it will be the Jetta TDI. I'm not getting rid of the GTI. It's simply too much fun to drive to get rid of it.

OK, so if no Camaro SS for you, why not go with a slightly used, low mileage Z06?

Performance wise is world class. And with low miles, you're probably looking in the $40,000 range? (That's a guess, I'm too lazy to research).

To be honest, I never really considered a used Vette. It's always a possibility.

The whole 2009 SS stock is not sold, that is a lie! There is one at the dealership down the street from us.

Another dealer has one on Craigslist, listed for 52k!

    EDIT:

I dare someone to say they are disappointed with a newer Z06 performance wise. The interiors of a Chevy wont rival that of a European car... but you are getting much more out of the car performance wise! You should test drive one.

Another great car for performance and luxury feel is the CTS-V. I keep trying to convince JB that we should get rid of most of our cars and just get one of those.

I'm not dissapointed with anything to do with the performance of any Chevy with a V8. The Camaro SS is the most phenominal example of "bang for the buck" in existence. 420HP, 6 speed, low 13's to hi 12's, 0-60 under 5 sec all the while returning 29 mpg? SIGN ME UP PLEASE.

Anyway, if there is a SS/6.2 at your local dealer, there are 3 possible scenarios.
    1) It's sold & they're waiting for the financing smoke & dust to settle.
    2) They're lying & it's really a V6.
    3) Someone that works at the dealer owns it.

I can't see any of the greedy pinheads in NJ NOT WANTING TO TAKE MY MONEY. That simply boggles my mind. I want to give them over $32000 for a car when the economy is in the toilet & Chevy isn't selling anything. I went to dealer #4 in 5 days today. The 2 sales scum & the financing manager all said the same thing. There isn't one in the entire country. Just to test the waters, I broke out the checkbook & made a huge presentation of writing a $10000 check. I stood up, looked the financing manager straight in the eye & told him I want an orange SS with white skunk stripes, Boston Acoustics premium sound, manual transmission & the 4 pack auxilliary gauge cluster. I told him I wanted in by the end of the month. HE HANDED ME THE CHECK BACK & said there is nothing he could do & I would have to wait like everyone else. There is no way there is a car available when someone is throwing money in their face & they are not making phone calls, arranging shipment, talking about financing options, etc. 4 dealers in a row told me I need to wait. I live in the most densely populated state in the union. If there was a SS anywhere, it would be NJ.

On a side note, if there is a SS in your area & it's being advertised at $52000, this is fantastic evidence as to why all car dealers are scum. This is called dealer price gouging & the dealer is a freaking scumbag for doing it. On the other hand, ANYONE who pays $52000 for a $32000 car is a complete retarded moron & they deserve what happens to them.

Since I've been completely discouraged at this point, I think I will simply revel in the fact that I don't have a truck payment anymore & then apply the truck payment to the GTI & pay that off in 9 months. Not having any vehicle payment is the equivalent of giving myself a $800/month raise. That will freaking rule, just like me.

Nope, it is a SS for sure... sitting in the middle of the showroom, at least the one that is close by. It COULD be sold but it is hard to tell without stopping in to see it. And the other dealer, yeah they are a scum bag for marking it up so much but that happens!

We did have a 2001 SS Camaro Convertible for a while and while I did not enjoy the looks so much it was a great car. Loved the power, loved the 6 speed, love the comfort of the interior. I did not enjoy all the cat calls I got while driving it alone with the top down though. We ran it at the drags for fun with long tube headers, I think the best time was 13.2 @ 107 mph with street tires, and it also got 29 mpg OR BETTER on the highway... Pretty good for a full options car! Amazing to cruise down the highway at 70 mph and 1400 rpms.

Anyways I still say CTS-V > GTI, but that is just my opinion!

Hmmm... GTI VS CTS-V? That's pretty much a knock out win in the 1st round for the CTS-V. The two aren't in even remotely the same class but that doesn't take away the fact the CTS-V is a far, far superior car. You can ask my Wife, I've long said if money were not an issue & I were to buy myself a true high performance car, it would absolutely be the CTS-V.

There are exactly 4 things the GTI has on the CTS-V.

    1) $$$ the GTI is about 1/3 the cost of a CTS-V.
    2) MPG. Then again, who buys a CTS-V & then cares about MPG?
    3) The seats in the GTI are far superior to the CTS-V.
    4) The steering wheel in the GTI is the best steering wheel not in a race car.

Your opinion may vary, but that's what makes the world go around.

"They" are going bankrupt because they didn't see the handwriting on the wall in the late 50's when those funny looking little cars with tiny engines that were made of old beer cans were coming in from places where little brown people lived. Pretty much the same deal as the UK motorcycle biz.

For those who are concerned or have some doubt about thier ethanol intake can answer a few simple questions on this test. It's one of several available on the net.

    Alcoholism Test

Much easier and more definitive than calling someone out on a bike BB. Betcha there are tests for all sorts of things like finding out whether counseling for anger management should go down, how to outsell a car salesman ect.

What are the payments on a new Camaro anyway? Yo Quiero Camaro.

Thanks Billy, but while trying to take the alcoholism test I got side tracked by the depression ads telling me it wasnt my fault................and then that kind of pissed me off so I just went and made myself a drink.

A buddy of mine ordered one. He won't get it until August. I drive him nuts by telling him that it will never get finished, due to the plant being shut down. Then I told him that he'll lose the deposit, because you can't get blood from a turnip.
Sometimes I can be so cruel.
