I would meet you there, but the wife might get mad if I go without her since that is where we got married five years ago. She rode on the vfr once and hated it! I could work something out though, she's cool like that. It's an eight hour drive for me on crappy two lane highways. At least the VFR loves to pass!!! I could do it in December over my x-mas break. I have two weeks off because I'm a teacher.

I'm gonna laugh and so will my wife. Chaps and sport bikes don't go well together unless it's a woman wearing a thong underneath. Get something that fits the bike a bit better.

My wife was a little uncomofortable riding with me so I suggested getting her own bike which she agreed to. Maybe by Dec, she'd be riding her own. We are working on it. She could always grab one of those $99 flight deals and meet you there. I'm sure we could work something out since my schedule is 3 days a week. I'll at least be off some of the time you are for Christmas break.

Wear whatever you want and ride whatever you want. Want to ride in sandals, and a tank top with no hemet....go for it, I figure its Darwin's Law at work there! I wear the same thing pretty much whethr I'm riding the Valkyrie or the Interceptor. Typically a Jacket similar in style to a Barbour Trailmaster, but constructed of Cordura-like Nylon with a zip in insulated liner for those 25degree January mornings! Riding any distance at all, I have a Bohn Euro shirt, stretch lycra with elbow, shoulder and back protection. Could wear it alone on summer days ( my son has), but I don't really have a Lycra-compatable physique any more  so I just wear it under an old scrub shirt or whatever. I do always wear a full-face helmet. Worst injury I ever got racing was when I endo'd a BSA 441VS and face-planted...broke my nose. But that was in the days before full face helmets!

So with my Trailmastre style jacket, side-zip jump boots, cargo pants, and Helmet, I guess I must be making a fashion faux-pa whether I'm on the Valk or the Interceptor. Probably look more like I belong on my old '71 Penton ISDT!?!? But I feel what I wear offers some reasonable degree of protection and hey, it's what I fell comfortable in...and that's all that matters.

Don't listen to him. Don't ride in sandals and don't ride with chaps on a sport bike. People might think you are white trash and have half a brain for protecting your legs and not your ass.

All laughing and jokes aside, if you are going to wear chaps on a bike because it offers you "protection", go out and at least buy something that covers your ass up. There are plenty of textile pull over pants out there that do the job.

Hell no I don't have a problem with white trash. I just don't want to be confused as such.

    Sodiumlake,
I think you are already being made fun of in this post as you can see. Ditch the chaps and get some sportier gear that at least gives you some protection from the cold and protects your ass from road rash.

I bought a pair of Draggin' Jeans and I love them. They are kevlar reinforced in the knees and in the ass. They are only slightly warmer to wear because of the reinforcement, but I can still comfortably wear them around in the summer. For an extra $25 I also got the knee pads that velcro to the inside of the pants. The jeans themselves are about $90. I don't have a picture of me in them, but they look just like regular jeans. The link to the website is:

Chaps. Hmm the Buell guys wear them.

Seriously though I wear aTransitions jacket from New enough all year round, 105 degrees have the jacket on. Gets sweaty but when you get moving the water evaporates and its nice and cool. I also have a set of Fieldsheer mesh type pants for the warmer weather and Full Cordua pants for the cooler weather as well.

I have seen my patella from the outside, and it was all because I didn't wear my pants. The arms and head were fine, full face and jacket. The knee still isn't healed, two years later, weird scar material that cracks and bleeds if hit, although it is starting to look more like regular scar tissue now. Needless to day I now wear full gear all the time.
