(I'll apologize in advance; I'm no good at "pith". ) Name is Doug, live in SE Michigan, have been riding a few years, and am picking up an 85 VF500 this week. I'm not new to bikes or bike forums, just new to this bike and this forum. My current ride is an 88 Vulcan 750 which I brought back from the dead, and is now a jump on it anytime and ride it anywhere bike. Which is what I need to do to this 500, as it seems to need an engine or major engine work, plus the stuff 20+ y.o. bikes usually need. The bright side is its a beautiful bike, paint and plastic in very good shape. So it's mostly all mechanical work. I've been a fan of these bikes since they came out, and have just now managed to get my hands on one. Its all a labor of love for me, if I can't ride, then working on it in the garage, (garage therapy) is the next best thing. Last year I had an 83 Nighthawk 650, 80 KZ 440, 73 CL 305 Scrambler. I like everything, and will ride anywhere, almost anytime. I really love to just ride and can waste countless hours on a bike without really going anywhere. Belonging to a few other bike forums, I know it can get old when new folks come rolling in asking all the same questions, so I've spent the last few days using the handy-dandy search function, and I'll work on keeping the "usual" questions to a minimum. One question I have, that I keep looking for without success, is what's the difference between the VF bikes, and the VFR's? Or where can I find the answer? (came up empty in the Wiki link, maybe I just missed it?) Anyway, told ya I lack pith, I'll stop now, looks like a great place, looking forward to hanging around learning and helping. See you all out there.
BTW, I have a weird draw to the 80's bikes, and resurrecting them... Here's my current ride-(just wanted to see what all the V-twin talk was about) And here's the bike I'm picking up this week-(will get some better pics later, and would really like to get the recent anniversary model in my garage as well)
I went the opposite way, just got a RWB 07 and now I've spied a 85 or 86 RWB sitting in a carport near my house, looks like it's been sitting awhile, either that or it's a cleverly disguised toybox for a little kids mountain of plastic pails.........
I like those 07's and wouldn't mind getting one at some point to sit beside this one I just bought. Do you have kids? Maybe you could swing a deal for that other bike AND all the toys hanging on it. LOL
