Just a thought to get compared what you guys have payed for getting your tires mounted. Specify off the internet tires or dealer priced tires, the whole bike into the shop or only the rims. Thanks for you input

The last set I had done were $25 for the pair off the bike. But they scratched up the rims so badly, they didn't charge me for it. Such a deal!! Like I said, that was my last set, I now have the Harbor Freight and do my own. Just put on a set of Conti Road Attacks last Thursday.

    Why is that?
I just had my rear replaced yesterday, they balanced it...it had weights on there before too.

I paid $20 for the rear, off the bike.

I take mine to the local autoshop and they charge $10 per wheel. They balance the rear on the car wheel machine and I do the front on a static balancer (wood with all thread across it). They don't scratch em either. But the other bikes I do myself with a Harbor Freight mount and NoMar bar.

Takes a special adaptor on the rear and very few dealers, or shops, seem to have it.

Motorcycle Superstore.Com just announced some "preferred tire installer program" that looks promising. Internet tire prices and pretty discounted installation costs, assuming a cooperating shop/dealer is close to you. Might want to check that out.

    $0 every time.

    I'm a member of the MSTA (ridemsta.org).

The Michigan Squadron has it's own tire mounting & balancing equipment (we all kicked in a few bucks a few years ago). If we need to change tires, we just give the director a call (the equip is located @ his work shop), and he says, "Come on down!", and we show up and change our tires. Well, most of the time, the director does it for us - he feels useless watching others work! :)

Per my Honda dealer, including balancing:

If you buy the tires from them:
On Bike: $43.90 front, $51.50 rear
Off Bike - Around $25 each

    Buy the tires elsewhere:
Add $25 to these prices above.

Expensive, yes. But I managed to negotiate. I gave them a couple of internet prices (Darby's, Motorcycle Tires, etc.). Cheapest I found my tires was about $275 for the set, so I let my dealer order them, and when all is said and done, it cost me about $25 more to have my dealer order the tires and mount and balance, versus if I ordered somewhere else.

Yea, I could find better things to do with $25, but these guys have taken care of me in a pinch. I view it like tipping a bartender in a busy place - give them $25 with your first order, and it "almost" guarantees that when you stumble up to that crowded bar, they'll do the right thing by you.

Just talking about that at a rally

The guys around the campfire quoted figures around 75 PER WHEEL. I said, "What??!!" Don't really remember the brand of tire, or why so expensive. This was in NY state/PA area.
My guy (Kawi dealer in Taftville, CT) does it for 25 per wheel, bring bike in. 35/40 if you don't buy the tires from them. But I internet searched before calling them, and he said he would match the price, and asked me for the website where they were cheapest. (Dunlop RoadSmarts, if anyone cares)
After hearing those stories, I was clamhappy to get it done by them. 50 bucks to install is about right in my economic world. If it was 100 bucks- I would get a Harbor Freight set up.
I would also highly recommend chatting with them and negotiating. Stealerships are on the ropes.

Great idea,WDGAH! Why can't we cooperated, people? Socialism works an so many levels.

I just got front and rear RoadSmarts for $270.43 with shipping from Cycle Gear, plus by using my AMA visa, I got a $8.11 kickback, so roughly $262 shipped to my door. Which I didn't think was too bad.
