Well since I'm not the one starting this tire thread, I'll jump on the tire question bandwagon.

I'm due for some new skins in about 1000 miles or so. I have Dunlop Sportmax currently, with about 2500 miles. This is the only tire I've ever had on my viffer, so I don't have anything to compare it to.

I've researched the forums and read many good opinions. It obviously boils down to riding style, conditions, etc. I have my sights set on the following:

Michelin Pilot - Is there a difference between the Pilot Road 2 and 2CT? Is there some other Pilot model that I did not see and should consider?

Pirelli - What is the difference between the Diablo Corsa and Diablo Strada? Is it that the Corsa is a softer tire? Therefore stickier, but less mileage?

Conti Road attacks - Other than the "C" mentioned above by KC, are there different variations or models?

Yes, I know that recommendations vary as much as winds change. But if you have suggestions, I'm open to them.

As far as my riding style - I don't ride too often when temps are below 40. I prefer to avoid rain, but ride in it if I have to. I don't do any 2 up, but I tip the scales at 240. Most of my long rides (that's a relative term) are 250 miles in a day. I generally do about a 70/30 mix of backroads/slabs. I don't race/go to the track. I'm ride spirited, but not aggressive.

I'll deal with prices later - just trying to find the right tire.

Here's some info from my tire experience with the tires you referenced:

I ride aggressively on the weekends on some twisties in southern Indiana and take an occasional road trip, so I try to balance mileage with grippiness. I run 32 psi in the front and 34 in the rear (at the advice of 2 shop guys and it feels fine to me). I got 6,000 miles out of Michelin Pilot Road 2s (with the 2CT or dual compound). They wore very nicely and are well worth the $. These are the best set of tires for my bike for my type of riding. There are also Pilot Power tires and they also make these with the dual compound. The Pilot Powers, I believe, are grippier yet. Many sportbike riders use these, but for my type of riding, I like the PR2s.

I'm currently on my second set of Conti Road Attacks. My first rear lasted 2,500 miles, as the center wore down faster than expected, but I get on it and I do wear them edge to edge. I thought I could use 1 front tire for 2 back tires, but, at 4,500 miles on the front, it has worn down and as KC-10 FE said, once it loses grip, you can really tell. It's not all the way to the wear bars on the side, but it has really lost my confidence in corners. Two sets of Road Attacks were more expensive than the PR2s. You buy tires and try them and then determine what works best for your riding.

I'm riding to western Colorado in 2 months and I bought a set of Dunlop Roadsmarts. I'll try these and see how they hold up then determine of the PR2s still have my vote. Hope this helps.
