Digging around i found out that for 1999 Honda added peg weights to reduce vibration at the pegs. I looked at the fische on ronayers and found the parts and being the constant tinkerer that I am, I ordered the parts.

Recieved the parts and mount on one side to try out left vs right. I cant tell any difference and the weight sure looks goofy! I am wondering if I mounted them right?

So long story short - can someone with a 1999/2000/2001 take a photo of your lower peg assembly, side and bottom view?

I wonder if I wasted my bucks.

    Thanks!

I just walked out and took a look at my 2000 and I always thought those things were lean angle warning devices. :) They would "kick" up to let you know you're about to become one with the tarmac. Did they actually weigh anything of significance while in your hand before you installed them? I’ll take a shot and post it this afternoon

After some research, seems some call them "nubs" or "feelers". That's if we’re talking about the same approximately 3/4 inch long pin with an acorn nut at the end. Photos still to follow...

These weight appear to be steel and have a healthy weight to them, kinda like a good bar end. They mount to the bottom of the footpeg, shape is like a u channel with flat sides. There is a rubber gromment in the two mounting holes that the bolts go through.

    - I went out again over the weekend and with more highway and more speedy twisty bits, I did find that the right was less buzzy in many situations.
(Again I mounted a weight on the right and not on the left for comparison.)
    Hmm maybe theres something here.

BTW - I'm not talking about the peg feelers - the roughly 3/8" diameter rod and acorn nut hanging off each peg at an angle. Everybody has those.

    Thanks Montana for your help!

I've uploaded four photos of the "peg weights" on my 2000 to my gallery. Sorry about my misunderstanding on the nubs and feelers. Hope these help...

Montana - thanks for the photos. --- I dont get it - but it looks like the weight is mounted to the left side and not the right. Hey M - is that what is looks to you?

Peculiar - There must be something else to the story. Any ex honda employees here that can shed light?

dude, those things would stick in almost every corner... I'm pretty sure when I had the feelers, they didn't stick out that much...

It does look as though the left peg has a weight and the right one doesn't. I've only had the bike for about three months and never took a close look at the pegs. I'll certainly ask the question the next time I’m at the dealer. As far as sticking peg feelers in corners go, I’ve been riding for over 35 years, have owned over 25 motorcycles, raced a couple of handfuls of track days and feel no need to drag knees on public roads. We all ride for different reasons, testosterone fueled lean angle boasts are not one of mine. Ride safe, ride smart, ride again tomorrow.

Hey MD, I just checked out www.crotchrocket.com They offer full view fiche details of the honda parts manuals. If you go to the 2000 VFR800FI and look up "step" you will get to the deail of the pegs area. And sure enough and who knows why, there seems to be only one "weight" item 37 called out and it's on the left side.

I've ridden for near 30 from dirt to street owned near a dozen bikes, and ride what feels comfortable. I'm a big boy and I'm willing to accept the responsibility for the risks I take. If I am hitting a road hard, it's not where I have to worry about traffic. I'm saying if I had feelers that long, they would stick easily. Like for instance when I had a sportster and would turn into the corner coming home that was a little more than a 90 degree turn from a stoplight, I had to be careful not to scrape the footpegs. Oh, and I still haven't dragged my knee...ever. Actually, if I did learn how to get off the bike and lean it less, I'd be faster due to less 'testosterone fueled lean angles'. Jeez, did you take that right out of a magazine rant on squids?

Yup, I was pretty much done with this thread when it was no longer about helpful information concerning weights on pegs and became about increasing post count. I should have known better. Lesson learned, thanks.

Forget about going off on the tangent of peg feelers. Not what the O.P. was asking about.

Yes, for 2000 (not 1999), Honda fitted a large rectangular weight to the underside of the LH footpeg only on the VFR800.

Seems some riders had a complaint about the LH footpeg buzzing at around 6000 RPM, so this was Hondas fix. Probably just moves the vibration to a different frequency that is not objectionable.

Me, I've got 1986 VFR750 all-aluminum pegs and don't notice any issues with vibes at the pegs.

    It's a motorcycle, not a luxury Goldwing.

Wear some thicker socks or boots if the vibration from pegs bothers you.

Got rid of stock pegs on my 2001, put after market billet, slash cut ones. Got the ground clearance I needed and didn't notice any defference in vibration. Do feel bumps a little more because there's no chunk of rubber on them like stock ones, but road feel is good.
