I am making a custom exhaust for my 2000 VRF800 because I want to show off my single sided swing arm.

Just wondering if people would mind posting pics of custom exhaust's. I have seen a hundred stardard mount slip-ons, and am just trying to find something different.

This is a start, but it's not exactly custom.

I was wondering about something undertail, or something short, like the new ninja exhausts.

And then there is Craig? bweiss, that made his own Ninja type muffler from a 6th Gen exhaust, cut off the cat and made his own camber with a short pipe before the wheel. Sounded great at SLO III. Sorry Im done searching for pics but Im sure he will be here shortly. I never saw a thread for his mod but may be there is one?

How about a left exit exhaust?? One of these days I'm going to make one. :ninja:

Undertail setups are pretty straightforward. Rob's (Alberta plate) is one of the nicer custom one's I've seen, probably nicer than the Wolf.

Not a 5th gen but this dual GP style exhaust would be cool.

This was the nicest underbike system I've seen made up.

you have to appreciate the amount of work that went into that under engine exhaust, it looks beautiful. but why invest all that effort into 2000+ version header with the smaller primaries? a 98-99 or aftermarket header would have been a better place to start... oh well. i guess the bike was either a 2000 or 2001 and this was easier to do.

that underengine system is Exactly what I am looking for, but that is way too much work for me. I might just straight pipe it or try and make a smaller muffler, but I don't have the knowledge or resources to fab up something like that.

That was made by member tok tokkie over on VFRD. He also machined his own triple clamps from magnesium I believe, so his skills are way beyond anything I can imagine myself doing. He's in South Africa so the '98-'99 header may not have been readily available.

yeah, plus I want to keep my centerstand.

So I am trying to find a muffler that is under 3" diameter and less than 14" long. Its getting hard to find.

Here it is VTR1000 Cans just like my sig

Well I decided my Cobras were too loud and I was not a huge fan of the sound so I spent some time researching what else I could mount on my VFR. I read VTR Superhawk Cans would work with small modification. Well they did with big modification I had to cut the necks on the cans way back. and modify the angle a bit. They were close but not spot on. So I made them fit.
I am not a professional welder I have a cheap Lincoln flux welder I know they are messy get off my case
I plan on sanding the JB weld and painting it later but I am going to make sure it is durable first.

    *********************************************************************************************************************************************************************
    Tools List
    *********************************************************************************************************************************************************************
    12 MM wrench
Small Pipe expander (10 bucks harbor freight)
    Angle Grinder
    Flux Welder

    *********************************************************************************************************************************************************************
    PARTS LIST
    *********************************************************************************************************************************************************************
2 VTR 1000 cans left and right $75 shipped on ebay
2 packages of JB weld $8
Acetone (to clean before paint and JB weld) $5
    2 1.75 OD to 1.75 ID adapters $6
    TOTAL cost $94 for parts
    *********************************************************************************************************************************************************************

I started using the angle grinder with cut off wheel to shorten the necks on the stock VTR pipes. Then on the adapter I cut the smaller end with 4 slits and expanded it to fit over the stock pipes. Then I cut the other end short and made one slit. Finally I cut 85-90% of the way through to make the correct angle.

I lined it up using the mounting tab and tack welded it into place.

Next after making sure it was all lined up about a dozen times I closed the gap. This was the first pipe it was much uglier than the second but what ever.

that stubby exhaust is almost perfect. A little too round for me, I prefer something under 3", thats the right length.

    thanks for the info.

Thanks, I really appreciate it. Thats the setup I am looking for, but without the chrome tip, I would use black to make it more subtle. But Overall, awesome! Thanks.

Yeah, if you could get some shots of it from below or from the lower side, I would love it.

Thanks I was unsure when I started the project but I am loving the sound and look every day. The only thing I miss about my F1-R cans is the weight savings.

HondaJT...I'll be seeing toxic this weekend. He took some pics of the work. I'll go ahead and post them sometime this weekend.

I was also deciding whether or not to paint the tip black, and I still keep going back and forth.

no problem man...basically i turned the cat (from an '01 header) into the muffler. sounds great, and cleans up the whole single sided swing arm look.

what did you do about the o2 sensor? Did you put on a power commander? How does it ride with/without it.
