    Hey guys,

I'm currently shopping for a VFR, and I found one that I like locally. The only issue with it is that at a steady cruising speed, the digital speedometer will jump around quite a bit more than any of my past bikes. If my old bike said it was going 40mph, it wouldn't jump more than 1 mph in either direction.

Conversely, the VFR speedo jumps from 30 to 38 to 32 to 24 and all around, even when at a consistent cruising speed.

I have read around here a bit, and on the older bikes, the regulator/rectifier seems to be the most likely suspect. However, this is a newer one.

Any input would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

No one knows? I'm guessing that the speed sensor (near or on the sprocket, I suspect) might be the culprit.

you know, I normally would take a guess, but you got me on it. Never had a similar problem at all. I could make something up if you like. Hmm let's see. Probably the thermodilution coil relativity index to the doomaflogett relay valve caused a hyer-reflexive reaction...yeah that's gotta be it.

That's what I'll check next, right after I check the exhaust bearings to make sure they didn't desynchronize the defibbulating floggulator, which would cause the speedometer to run low on fluid. Thanks!

I didn't even think of checking that! You know for some reason I get the feeling you and I are the only ones reading this thread. It's like it's in a dead end alley and everyone glances down and keeps walking by.

maybe its the negativve power coupling to the flux capacitor? It could be a faulty speed sensor. Check the connections to make sure there is not corrosion and they they are tight. The one thing you dont mention is what year you have, if it before 95, then there is no speed sensor and it is most likely either the cable or the head unit itself.

Actually, the model year is in the thread title -- "Jumping Speedometer on an '04"

I don't think it could be anything but the speed sensor. There is no other sexplanation!

Yep, the year is too listed in the topic. Sorry, I missed that or maybe I didn't and it just did not register. DOH!

Well, at least you know it is not a normal thing with the bike:tongue:

that could be bad or good, depending on how you see it...
