    I have a 99 with 45 000 km on the clock .

What do I need to do or know .

I will need tires soon .So what do I buy ?

I don`t have a owners manual .So how do the brakes work ?I know they are linked but how ?How do you guys usually brake ?Daily use and emergency ?

What is a good suspension setting for a 220lbs guy ?

Welcome fellow 5g brother, you're obviously I highly intelligent chap for buying the a 5th gen VFR because we 5g owners are usually more smarter, better looking, smell better, faster and have better looking wifes than the other generation owners , As far as tires & other mods it depends on your riding style...

Welcome to the 5th gen world dude! Tires? Dunlop RoadSmarts -- Just curious - you sure its a '99 and not a '00? The '00 were yellow. Look to see if you have a catolictc converter or not.

Congrats on your new ride. You say 45,000 kms (as in kilometers) is it a Canadian bike, that would explain the Yellow in '99.

    good call.

I was confused for a minute until I realized he quoted the odometer in km.

As far as your questions on what to use...check out the VFR Wiki. It's your friend.

I believe you can find a detailed description of how the brakes work in the downloaded factory service manual here.

    Repair Manuals and Parts Catalogs

Suspension Settings - Read up on setting the static sag/rider sag

As far as tires...it's a never ending debate(ask about oil! lol). Anything but stock lol. But seriously, it depends on the type of riding you're going to be doing whether it is touring, sport-touring, strictly sport, track, or any combination of them.

Sport-Touring favorites have been: Michelin Pilot Road 2 CT, Pirelli Diablo Strada, Dunlop Roadsmart, and Continental Road Attacks. There are a few other models/brands but other faithful to them will comment as I can never remember the names of tires I haven't used or thought about using.

Sport/Track tires: Pirelli Diablo Corsa III, Pirelli Diablo, Continental Sport Attack, Michelin Pilot Powers 2ct and a whole bunch more.

I don't know the dunlop/bridgestone/avon models off the top of my head but it seems to me the majority is on Michelin, Pirelli, and Continentals. YMMV.

    Cheers
