Hello everyone, I have just purchased a 2002 VFR800 and have a problem that I hope one of you can help me with. (I have owned a 1983, 1985, 1995 VFR’s in the past) and have never head any problems and loved each one of them.

When I first purchased the VFR800 I noticed that it had a extremely sensitive throttle (what I thought was) it seemed at the time that if I let off on the throttle whatsoever the bike would decelerate noticeably. At the time I thought it was do to a loss throttle that needed adjustment. After adjusting; the bike continued to decelerate (or feel like it was) even if I was going down the freeway at speed; the symptoms seemed most noticeable between 4 and 5.5 rpm. (almost like I head poor throttle control and was moving my hand)

I took the bike into my local Honda dealer and they said that they could not replicate the problem so took no action. As I drove home (as the bike become harmer) I again notice the same tendency, and also noticed that if I placed the bike on the center stand at over 200 F I could not hold it a 4500 it would very from 4200 to 4900 and would not hold a consistent rpm.

So I though that maybe the battery was going bad/dead as it heated up it did not have the power to run the fuel injection correctly. Replaced the battery and now the issue is worse than before, can notice the inconsistency in rpm throughout the rev range.

Does anyone know if there is a process to starting/ resetting fuel mapping after replacing a battery?

It seems like the mapping is screwed up, any other ideas?

Thanks for any help you guys can give me.

When I first got my bike, I noticed the throttle response was very crisp compared to what I was used to. I'm not sure if your problem is just the normal throttle action affter reading your post, though. I have read some posts saying that remapping using a PCII can eliminate some of that in the lower RPMs. I have a 5th gen and I just ordered a PCII so I'll find out soon enough. I have gotten used to it at low speed, though and do not notice it unless I totally let go of the throttle, If I'm in a higher gear it's hardly noticeable at all.

The topics abound on this for the Sixth gen VFR. Some go the PC III route and others have tried a different fuel pressure regulator. Most think the deceleration at 4k to 5k, is due to the computer leaning out the gas for emssion purposes. Personally, I have never experienced the deceleration. The throttle touchiness is, IMHO, due to the FI system and some people have had good luck with the pressure regulator from
