I'm not sure what type of signal the fuel cut relay gets to make it close and allow the pump to prime. I've tried to figure this out years ago on the older bikes (the signal wire came from the primary ignition of one of coil at that time, instead of the ECM). I couldn't get a reliable reading from any kind of meter I had at the time...perhaps a peak voltmeter would be better at this, but I never tried.

I troubleshoot that circuit by logic and continuity...first off...you gotta have spark. Then I unplug the cut relay and short the wire that comes from the fuse to the wire that goes to the pump...the pump should run at that point. Then I would to make sure the ground wire in the cut relay connector is good...next would be a continuity test from the signal wire that runs to the ECM.

I rarely see probems with harnesses...and I mean rarely. More often I see problems with connectors...like bent pins and loose fitting terminals...to being only partially plugged in.

tell you the truth, I should just check all the connections for corrosion on the old main harness.
But Im semi color blind (so I think)

The german wife thinks its funny when I ask her what color some wires are and she'll answer me in german, (my german is slow)

Plus my first bike a SRAD, had a simmilar issue, replaced the wiring harness and it started right up. (hoping the luck will go my way again)

I should have these things hooked up by mid week, Ill check to see if this resolves my issue. Every other sensor is measuring ok, or above the factory min. It was on the PG that was off. Crossing fingers.

I just hope I dont have to rewire this thing once I move towards a motec unit.

And so it was a happy ending. There is spark, there is fuel there is fire.

I replaced the IPG, and converted the 01 VFR to a 99 EFI system. No need for the O2 sensors anymore.

I didn't want to run it on tonight for there are no mufflers, but did a spark test and all 4 plugs had good clean spark.

I'll do a write up if anyone cares about converting to an 98-99 EFI system.

Thanks Dizzy for your help, I started with a vast knowledge of turning wrenches and fabricating, but don't know shit for electrical, and after nights of learning on the fly and help on the board, I was able to figure things out.

(I also tested with the 01 Wiring harness and ECU and it sparked as well. The issue was the IPG.) But I still wanted to convert to the 98-99 EFI system.

Hello all, I'm having a similar problem and I'm comparing notes. Can somebody tell me exactly what an IPG is ?
