Just picked up an '07 VFR800A, the guy I bought it off had a clear adhesive protector to install but never got around ot it. I am not sure I want to use this type or not. I like the carbon fibre looking one I see on some of the 600RR bikes, is there a one for the VFR and where do I get it? what is the better of the types out there for protection and looks?

    Any help would be appreciated.

It all depends on what you want- your local motorcycle shop will have several dozen to choose from. I think picking one would be much easier if you have a solid color rather than an RWB- the red stripe on the tank almost requires you to use a clear one so it doesn't look dumb IMO

Thanks HT, I have the red '07 so the options are greater. Is there a VFR specific one. Local dealer don't have any in yet, they are just opening and I don't want to wait for them to get off their rear and get them in. Will order online. So a better question would be anyone got a source to order them from?

Any Honda dealer should be able to get the accessory carbon fiber looking one, or you could check someplace like motorcyclesuperstore.com, or bikebandit.com Bike bandit should be able to get the OEM accessory one

I just put these on mine from TechSpec-usa Motorcycle Gripster Tank Pads. Tank grip and protection. They replaced the Stompgrips I previously had. Love the look and function so far. Hard to tell in these pics from their website but the "snakeskin" one has a carbon fiber look to it.

I like the Tech-Spec too Kevin.

Works very nice when off the bike and on the brakes at the track and in general street riding.

But they don't do much for 'protection'.

    My 2 cents.

I hate fake CF, or Carbon-Fiber "look" stuff. But thats my preference. I prefer Real CF. Which is what I have.

The one for the Honda CBR fits, and looks like it belongs.

I've got an 06 black VFR. Just got back from the California Superbike School. Now I'm toying with the idea of putting tank protectors on the sides. I read about the 3M clear film - don't like that idea. Half bra leather tank protector is interesting; not sure where to get one - anyone have problems with the bra shifting or scratching against the tank in a lean?

I like Kevin_70's photo of the pads on his white tank. It would probably work well on mine. Is it comfortable in a lean Kevin?

I really like them, they stick well to your legs and you don't feel the little annoying bumps like you do w/Stompgrips. So, yeah, they're certainly comfortable even with jeans.

I think because I ride dirtbikes a bit more than street I clench the sides of my tank harder than most with my legs. I was noticing two good sized areas where I was messing up the clear coat after riding it a few years, so, that's the main reason I went with something like this.

Thanx for the links Honda Tech and others for posting.

I have those 3M ones now, just don't think they well look any good.

    Thanks again all.

    Thanks for your input Kevin
The gripsters look like a good choice. It looks like they come in snake skin pattern or high fusion syn rubber. One looks "stickier" than the other. Both opinions are a simple solution to a simple problem.

    Cheers

Don't go with the 3M because as they age the edges begin to slightly peel up allowing dust to stick to it. Recently at my local bike night a VFR owner had a clear tank pad with a VFR logo either underneath (sticker??) or actually in the pad, anyone seen this design and where do they sell them? The owner said it was on when he bought the bike from the original owner.

I recently installed the Tech Spech kit after using the clear film kit from thetankslapper.com for almost two years now.

One thing of note: If you have a tendency to bang, ding, drop tools, are generally clumsy or you ride your bike EVERYWHERE and ANYWHERE, the clear film for the top of your tank is priceless. Not only does it protect against the little things happen, but it also protects the tank from abuse at the hands of your tank bag due to vibration. Mine flew off on the trailer coming home from Deal's Gap but I'll get another one. Really is a priceless piece of protection for those who ride a lot but still care about what their bike looks like.

The VFR one is really thick and pushes you slightly back - does me. It looks decent, nothing wow or interesting. And having just recently removed the pad - I can say it feels so much better riding it. I'm looking into just buying a simple CF Protector next - I think the only thing the thicker ones do is keep you from crushing your parts IMO.
