Hi VFR world!! from west KY

Nice to meet all. I am a recovering motorcycle addict. ( now everyone together: Hello, VsVFR) Just bit the bullet and bought a pearl white 06 and can now be initiated to the club. I like motorcycles of all types, but tend to stay on the sporty side. The other bike in my stable at the moment is an 04 Buell XB12R. Don't bash it until you try it!!(they are kind of purpose built, curvy roads, good fuel mileage, but not really built to do what other sport/superbikes are built for). But I have definately found another favorite in the vfr. It's still being broken in, but I can tell that I'm going to have a lot of fun on this bike. Planning on a trip to Deals in September and am anxious to see what this baby will do. So nice to meet everyone, hope to contribute some knowledge if I can ever help and I'm sure that I'm going to be asking lots of questions here in the near future. Hi VsVFR. Congrats on the purchase and welcome to the club. You are finding out what the rest of us know and have discovered: That the VFR can do it all. I am going to Deals Gap the weekend of Sept 2nd with soem local guys and then again I plan to go on the weekend of Sept 15th as part of the VFRD group. Oh, I live in Central KY, in Danville. I have a Crystal Pearl White 93 VFR 750. I love it. Where in western KY are you? You don't have to answer here if you don't want, you can PM me with it. We have a member map you can pin yourself to and a photo gallery to post pics of your bike in. :biggrin:

A Buell V-twin and VFR V-4, how lucky are you!!! I noticed you got the R version, I had a buddy that had one had we did a little switch, I remember firing it up and thinking it felt like it had a small V-8 underneath me with that rumble but it smoothed out very nicely once I got going.

I always read about people having the ride of there life's at Deals Gap, I got relatives in Missouri that I visit about every 5 years, somehow I'm going to work in Deals Gap on my next trip.

 

Vman I live south of Paducah in Murray. Home of the Murray State Racers of OHV fame. The 15th sounds like fun, do you guys have several that are planning on going?

Reg we do have some beautiful riding around the Land Between the Lakes area, you should definately get up here sometime. Maybe even swing down to the south end of the lakes and check out 232, what some call the "baby dragon", it's fun, but isn't quite as challenging as the true Dragon.

R.W. I rode the Buell to Deals Gap last year and had a great time. I'm looking forward to the trip there as much as actually riding the dragon now that I have the VFR! Every time I crank the Buell it reminds me of a drag car, just sitting there bouncing all over. But like you say it smooths out quite a bit once you roll on the throttle. I catch flack from the squid types because it won't do 150 or 160, but they can't believe how it handles once I get to the twisty bits. I'm no expert rider, but the Buell definately makes me feel like one.

Vs, there is a thread on vfrd (http://www.vfrdiscussion.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=23168) that discusses the details. I have not decidd if I wil go down friday afternoon or very very early saturday morning yet. I will probably decide before the first of september

 

Thanks for the link. I'll try to decide if I can go that weekend. Looks like that might be my best bet since it looks like things are booked the weekend before. If I don't get to go that weekend I may have to go a little later than I had planned. Always wanted to go with a group of enthusiasts!! Hopefully it'll work out.

 

It is my PERSONAL opinion that at least 50% of the people who get the bikes like the Busa's and big liter bikes get them for the wrong reasons, I think some of them actually think it makes their third leg 3" longer.

I had a couple of friends when I had a CBR 600 and they had their big liter bikes and they use to just eat me up on the straight aways, but when I got to the twistys, I would just smoke them because they never even cared to learn how to do the proper corner, and all they cared about was the sheer power of the bike.

I always say to each his own, but to me, there is nothing better than coming in & out of the perfect corner. :biggrin:

 

Hello, I am in Southern Indiana and just started riding this year, so I am probably not up to you guys's riding skill, but I have wanted to ride the Dragon all summer and just never made it. I am getting ready to go back to school, but maybe I could get away for that weekend. My bike has been to the Dragon with the previous owner, and I think it is wanting to return. I am with you guys, straightline power is fun at first, but carving up the twisties brings lasting enjoyment because you can always get better. Where in western Kentucky are you located VsVFR? I go to school at the University of Evansville so if you're in Northwestern Kentucky than you're really close. I am going to check out the link about the VFRD now.

 

Welcome. I guess you know you bought the best looking vfr made.:smile: If you can swing it try to make it to the dragon on Sept. 15th. It sounds like we're going to have a pretty good turn out.

 

I pm'd Vman, looks like I may be heading out of town on business instead of pleasure like I had planned. But there may still be some chance of me making it that weekend, I've got my fingers crossed. If I don't on the 15th, I'll get down there a week or 2 later. But believe me I'd rather be there for a nice big group photo shot from Killboy!! That would look nice on the office wall...
