A little perspective:
Our galaxy is made up of about 100 BILLION stars like our own sun. If the rest of KNOWN space beyond our galazy were represented in size by a professional football stadium, our 100 Billion star galaxy would be about the size of a poppyseed on the 50 yard line.
I think we have grossly overstated our own importance.
Seems to me a little culling of the flock would be useful anyway.

 

Perspective is good stuff. In many places football is soccer. Then ya got Australian Football that is sort of like Rugby and for all I know popular in New Zealand. The perspective deal here is that nobody has really counted all those 100 billion stars and anybody that tried just flat ran out of time, made even worse if such a person lived at either pole or even in Minnesota.

Another perspective is that as far as I know with the exception of stadium football, all American football stadiums can differ in size, the playing field remaining the same even in high school ball. Then the Canadians do the metric thing that makes it even worse.

So does anyone think we should nuke Canada? I certainly do not. Truth be known that Canada supplies us with tons of barley. Without barley there is no beer. Therefore we should not nuke Canada.

You may ask WTF this has to do with swine flu. The barley from Canada that is not used for bread or beer is used to feed pigs.

I was all just about ready to end my miserable existance, fearing what would happen when I contracted the swine flu. longer ears, weird bristly hair, a fuckin TAIL! 2 sets of cammle toe.... not to mention a lust to roll around in my own fecal matter.

But I was just sitting here, reading the chat, and I glanced at the Nutrition Facts of a Jar of Planters Peanuts!

Speaking of sensationalized news- yesterday they said the US had it's first death from swine flu....A kid from Mexico that was transported to Houston for treatment! Now it's sad a young kid died from this, but that isn't exactly a US death when he wasn't from here but it makes for a better headline. Honestly a couple hundred deaths worldwide on a planet populated by hundreds of millions of people isn't that concerning to me. It took 300,000 people starving to death for anyone to give a crap about Somalia(since they have no oil) and starvation doesn't require exotic medicine to cure. Besides, is it any real shock some terrible disease comes out of Mexico? Given that they haven't even mastered the concept of potable water disease seems highly likely there, and deaths will be more common. If you can't even drink the water what are the chances of surviving any disease? Much lower.

All the same, you won't find me getting on a plane going anywhere, especially Mexico anytime soon.

 

I'm pretty sure the reason for all the "young healthy adult" deaths was the prominence the 1918 flu had in army barracks. Lots of "young healthy adults" all living in close quarters.
