Hey Guys and Gals, I have another question! I was thinking of replacing the air filter in my bike ('85 VF500F) with the K&N filter. I searched around on here, and I saw that a lot of people said they had to adjust some things for it to work optimally. But I think they were mostly talking about newer bikes with fuel injection. So my question is, if I put this filter on my bike, with carburetors, would I have to tweak everything, or would it work just fine as is? What are your opinions about it?! -Chris
I was one of the ones who had to tweak a little, but you are correct it was on a newer bike. I never really noticed any difference in performance. I mostly bought it just to not have to rebuy filters. And the tweaking I did was only removing the rubber gaskets that are stock. If I had to guess, it would be a pretty seamless installation and you'll not even notice a change in the way your bike runs.
K&N's flow more air than stock, exactly how much??? it will make you run a tad leaner but without other significant exhaust or intake mods the filter alone should not require any special tuning on its own.
nice 85! hey the filter will work fine, no mods necessary. i ride a 91 vfr that is better in every way, but i once had an 85 like yours but red where yours is blue. i would LOVE to find a nice one and relive my youth. do yourself a favor and keep that bike forever, it is a gem...
