    Hi everyone,

Glad to find this forum, as I'm looking to get a VFR (5th Gen, year 2000) as soon as I can get myself in to debt for the cause.

I'm in the south-west of England, and passed my test 6 months ago, and last Monday I test rode a 2000 CBR 600f and the 2000 VFR. The VFR stole my heart! BUT SOME QUESTIONS, if you don't mind.

Just to be courteous after spending an hour on the free test ride, I saw that I'd used almost half a tank of fuel (the journey was about 10 miles inner city riding and then about 12 miles on dual carriageway (and then back). Wasn't this a bit much? I only had to put £8 in to top it back up, but I did think 'oh dear'.

The other thought I had is that on both bikes, the salesman was twisted something on the left handlebar. Is this anything to do with fuel? If so, would he have done it to make the engine run nicer (to impress me) but at the cost of actually using more fuel? So if I buy it, is there a disguised issue?

I know it's hard to answer without seeing the bike, but you guys are the best resource I have -I wouldn't trust the salesman's word.

Thanks for your time -hope to be a rider in the club soon!

Are you sure the VFR was a 2000 model? I believe that the 2000 model was the first year to have an automatic choke system and if the bike was build prior to this it would probably have a manual choke lever on the left side handle. The VIN and year built should be attached to the left side frame. Double check to make sure it is not a 99 model or earlier. On average you should be getting around 35-45 miles (55-70km) per gallon of fuel (3.7 liters)

How does the bike run and does it have any mods such as aftermarket exhaust?

    Regards,
    Rollin

    Hiya,

I emailed the dealer today and they say it was registered in 2000, X-reg. Would x be 2000? Or is it a '99 reg'd in 2000?

So on the note of fuel, I must've done about 35 miles when I pulled in for petrol, and had used almost half a tank (about £8) worth. How does that sound?

    Cheers! You guys are cool

sounds like the choke was on. Usually you should see 40-50MPG (or 10 miles/liter)...

    or something is wrong...

I agrees with these guys, he probably 'enrichened' it a bit cause my 98 is notriously cold for the first few minutes then warms up. He probably didn't want it to die on you making you think something was wrong. I dont know the mileage on the 600 but it might be slightly better than the 800 due to the weight but I think the VFR has longer range due to the tank size. I get in the low to mid 30s with aggressive riding and mid to hgh 30s just goofing off (thats in miles per gal BTW)

You should get way more than 30 miles to half a tank. I get over 200 miles to a tank every time.

Whoa, seems like a good case for 'what ya up ta Mr salesman?'

Sounds like it must be a '99 if it has a manual choke, and if you say that they can be a little cold on start up, fair play, but it may be hiding a bigger problem. Right?

Hmm, another test ride before buying I think...

Tell the dealer you want the bikes manufacture date or VIN number. If he doesn't know this information I wouldn't buy a bike from someone that stupid.
