Here one minute, gone the next

I am very sad to report that one of the Green Berets in my SF battalion and his wife were killed this morning in Fayetteville when they collided with a car that pulled out in front of their motorcycle. They are survived by their two kids aged 5 and 8. Today was the 8 year old’s birthday. His grandmother was in town to celebrate with them. One of my SF medics is at the house to console and help out, but cannot figure out what to say. The grandmother is hysterical. The kids do not know their parents are never coming back from their ride. Who tells them? How? What the hell do you tell them? I gotta tell ya, I’d rather go back over and get shot at again or worse. My poor medic.

I ask now for any prayers you are willing to pray. Pray for these kids whose lives will never be the same. Pray for God’s mercy on this family and the souls of this couple. Pray for my unit. We are a tight knit crew who take the loss of a fellow soldier as hard as we take the loss of a family member. Pray for our understanding.....Here is a real American badass who goes to Iraq or Afghanistan (i.e. different corners of hell) seven times, doing very bad things to very bad people so that you, me and our families can sleep peacefully at night, and he and his wife are killed just around the corner from his house.

If you are not the praying type, please at least take the time to reflect on your own life. Think about those good parts. Regret nothing, or, if you already have regrets, fix them. Take nothing for granted, ladies and gents. It can all end tonight, tomorrow, or when you least expect it. While you still have your life, live it!!

I am very sorry to hear about this terrible loss. As a retired military member, I have the utmost respect for our active troops and wish every one of them only the best. I will indeed pray for the children as I continue to pray for all of you. My sincerest thanks for what you do. I wish I could do more.

You and the family have my condolences. At least there is a loving fmily who will take the part and raise those two kids. I have a 5 and 8 year old myself and can't imagine what it would be like for them without me and their mother.

Very disturbing. My condolences to you and that family.

These GD cagers had better get their shit together and watch for motorcycles! I get sick to my stomach whenever I hear news like this, which apparently happened as the result of a cager's negligence and/or disregard for maintaining hightened awareness of his or her surroundings.

Seeing the title of this thread made me a little squeamish and was hoping it was about something else. I will keep you, their children and family in my prayers.

A reminder to those of us still walking on this earth that life is very fleeting.....

 

You can say that again. I was out riding yesterday out in the country through a small town going 25 MPH and almost got T-boned by a small
city bus. One of those Limo bus types. Needless to say the driver got the bird!

Yes, life is indeed fleeting. Never realize this when we are in the middle of it, but our friends and family do when such things happen. My sincerest condolences.

 

My exact first thoughts too.

I am at a loss of words to express my sympathy for the family, the children, and all the friends they have left behind. My prayers and my families prayers will be with all of you...

Let me also take this time to THANK all of the active and inactive military folks around here. Especially to all of the families that will never have the chance to hold their loved ones again...on behalf of me and my family, thank you for all of your sacrifices to keep us safe.

SFPA, So sorry for this tragic loss. I agree it happens to the best. The words Green Beret describe the quality, & caliber of this man. By your description he made a great contribution to maintaining our freedom. I thank him, you, and all servicemen for their duty to our country.
