Well, that answers my question. I was wondering about any rides this weekend.

    VFRs in VA for sale

I know it's not very close to you but here is a pretty darn good deal on craiglsist for a 99.

    1999 Honda VFR800 Interceptor

The conscensus around here is that 99 is one of the best of the fuel injected VFRs. It has the gear driven cam engine (ultra low maintainance AKA no valve adjustment) and I believe its exhaust was free of catalytic converters too.

The Sixth Gen bikes, such as the 05 you mentioned, are very nice too, but the VTECH engine does have a rather costly valve adjustment. It's just part of the territory of the sophisticated engine. I really love the color matched factory saddle bags I have on my 07. IIRC the 5th gen bikes had factory luggage, too, but not as integrated looking as the 6th.

Additionally I have a low mileage 86 VFR700 that runs great that I'm willing to part with for less than your budgeting, but my almost antique bike is not as capable as the newer ones because it predates radial tires.

I'm getting ready to head out. Do any of you guys want to meet up for a ride today Saturday April 25, 2009?

Hey Larkin, I got your text last weekend, but I was out of town yet again. Give me a few days heads up next time, and I can certainly go.

    Hey George,

Was it your brand new VFR that you went down on? I sure hope not, but I am glad you are ok.

No worries BP. My wife and I just did another 200 miles today down towards Fredericksburg and then headed west, north, and then back east to home. ;) A great beautiful day, no cops, and no squids anywhere, with the xception of a Mini Cooper group ride that was an exciting scene.

I got out for a 50+ mile ride on my favorite local roads. I just ran them a few times. It was exciting in itself. there was a brush fire out in the forest off the road I was on. So, in places, the smoke was thick. On one turn it is 15MPH switchback, a chick took it too fast and ran off the road. A few bikes had stopped with me and we blocked traffic nad pushed the bike up out of the woods for her.

    Maybe next time.

I know where all of the squids were. They were in the Outer Banks of NC. The wife and I rode down there from Norfolk today, and I finally learned why all non harley riders are so quick to judge the Harley lifestyler. It was wall to wall cruiser/chopper/bobber types, mean mugging and not waving, and a bunch of squid sportbike riders, mostly 'busas with extended swing arms and ninjas painted flat black. While the sportbike people were a little more sociable, it was an eye opener to the heavy drinking, bar hopping, rugged individualist clone army.

I went to the BMW dealership open house in Fredricksburg last weekend with a buddy and had a much better time. I still believe that a motorcycle is a motorcycle and if you've got two wheels you are ok with me, but I found out that if you don't have a harley, we aren't OK with them.

If they don't wave back, it's their problem not ours. Keep on waving, don't become them!....
Waving is a bond for mc riders,if they don't want to be part of the brotherhood of riders,it's their lose.... It's like Americans that have to put a hyphen before American......They are not satisfied with just being American....Monk

Amen to that. If you were born here then that is what you are and nothing more. If someone wishes to call themselves something in addition to American then they better speak the native language of that country fluently and have actually set foot on that country's soil for more than just a vacation. I sometimes joke that I am a European-American, not just white or caucasian(whatever that means).

As for waving, while at motorcycle gatherings when the bikes outnumber the cars its ok and acceptable to forego waving. I always chuckle in my helmet when I wave at cruisers on back roads and only get four fingers raised from their deathgrip on the bars briefly, or when I take a hand off to wave while rounding a bend with ease and receive nothing in return because the only thing keeping their ass on this Earth is the white knuckled cliffhanger grip. Priceless.

I'm still gonna ride with y'all, don't worry. But on the spirited long mountain rides the worrying can be tiresome and the guilt when someone crashes takes away the bliss of riding free.

I happened upon a fellow VFRWorld rider the other day on my way home from work. Merged on the highway right in front of him. Small world. Then L8RGYZ and his wife found me at Starbucks today far from home.

I just noticed this thread. Other VFR riders in VA? Is it really possible?

I'm in Manassas, have an 87 VFR that's undergoing a restoration (mainly bodywork, what else?). I have a ZRX 1200 that I ride most of the time...at least until the VFR is back on the road. If ya'll can stand having a ZRX in the group till my VFR is roadworthy...I might be up for doing some rides.

If Thursday weather doesn't come as planned (scattered showers) I will be heading out west. If anyone is interested and has the day off I'm planning on heading out around 11-11:30 to points west and I need to be back in town by at least 4. Post up if you are interested!

    Up for Thursday!

    Hey Matt,

I actually have Thursday off and I would love to go for a ride out west, weather permitting, and your timing works great for me. Can meet you at the Bristow Safeway or whereever/whatever time you will set.

    Regards,

    Scott
