Hey everyone- I'm shopping for a new pair of gloves and I just can't seem to decide which, so I will do what I usually do, post some details of what I have in mind and links on here with a poll and let you guys help! My riding is 90% Highway commuting, and 10% riding twisties on the weekends with friends. The contenders:

Alpinestars GP Plus: Found this on closeout- I have some cheapie full gauntlet gloves now, and i like them but haven't really decided if I want to get another full gauntlet or do one of the shorter 3/4 length gloves. These will be my gloves for spring/summer/fall before it gets cold gloves so breathability is a bit of a factor by may hands didn't get too hot in my Teknic Chicanes last summer so a full leather gauntlet should be fine. I have dedicated winter gloves that are fine.

    Alpinestars SP-X: Highly breathable/vented 3/4 glove: Alpinestars SP-X Gloves Black 2008 model

Held Thrux: Full gauntlet, I've heard a lot of good things about Held gloves and they seem really quality, just also quite expensive. these are a bit more than I would like to pay (trying to stay around $120 max) but might be worth the stretch: HELD Thrux Gloves Black

I like the A* GP Plus. I'd like to get another season out of my current gloves, but if I end up replacing them I'd go with the GP Plus. On a personal note, I like the protection of gauntlets style gloves. My current summer gloves are that style and I don't find them that hot even in the desert heat.

I have 2 pairs of Alpinestars GP Plus gloves so far. I love 'em, they're the only full gauntlet gloves I've seen that offer a lot of protection yet still are comfortable and even have venting for hot days. You won't be disappointed with them.

I like AStars gloves & have several pairs & have completely worn out 2 pairs & ruined a 3rd by spilling gas on them. I would have no problem recommending them to anyone. The single only gripe I have is the fit is inconsistent. My SPS gloves are size LG & fit me like the proverbial glove. Any of the full race gloves are too small in size large.

For my race gloves, I went with Joe Rocket. I was having problems getting the AStars GP Tech's to fit comfortably over the sleeves of my JR jacket. I figured (quite correctly) the matching SpeedMaster gloves should fit just fine with a SpeedMaster jacket. I am 100% certain the AStars are a better product but I simply couldn't find a full race gauntlet that fit me like I wanted/needed them too. For the few times a year I do track days, I think the JR's will be just fine.

    KC-10 FE out...

I have the Spidi Carbotech, liked them so much I bought a couple pairs when they were discontinued and still have a pair on 'ice'. Spidi's have always seemed to fit me better than others.

Whatever you do, go FULL GAUNTLET. nuff said.

I'd go with HELD if I had the cash and they fit good. Seem to have just a little bit of an edge in materials and craftsmanship in the past...heard that's changed some in recent years though. Try them both(Held and Astar GP Plus) on and see what fits you best. Whatever fits best is always better than what looks most appealing on paper(or screen).

My problem is all of the motorcycle shops/clothing places within 100 miles don't carry anything above something like an A-stars Sp-1. fortunately for me I have little girly hands and basically every glove I have tried on from every manufacturer I wear a med. so I'm not too concerned with the fit. I think I'm gonna give the GP-Plus' a try.

I ordered a pair of the A* gp plus. They haven't arrived yet but I am looking forward to trying them out. I will be interested to see if the pinkie to hm whatever finger that is next to the pinkie link causes any issues.

I was using the joe rocket michael jordon gloves on closeout from new enough last year (link) (which I liked very much) but I stretched the heck out of them using insulated liners out of them this spring.

I just received my Olympia Perforated Gel Gloves today; they fit well, should be comfortable in hot weather, and the 'gel' layer extends from your palm to the thumb-index finger area that tends to get numb if you don't shift your grip occasionally, a nice touch.

Of course they're not Mad Max jobbies like you all seem to prefer, just light duty gloves, but if you're in the market for that kind of thing these seem pretty nice. One of the cycle magazines recommended them...
