2008 VFR 800a Front Sprocket Change

I'm struggling to find a manufacturer or retailer who sells sprocket conversion sets or single sprockets for the 08 viffer. Ideally, I am looking to go -1 on the front (15T).

Can someone who has done this shed some light?

After comparing the OEM parts list, 02-07 all have the same part number and then it changes in 08.

    Thanks in advance!

I ended up going +2 in the rear. Quick shipping and a good price from these guys.

Really? I could not find one on their website (only goes to 2k7) and then called them for assistance. They hummed and haaaed and then said they didnt have an 08 specific front sprocket and told me not to go with the 07 one.

Whaaa? I'm by no means an expert but as far as I know there is no change in sprocket size from 02-09. I'm sure someone here would know better tho. Anyone?

*Edit* Maybe I misunderstood what your asking. I just looked and they list a steel front sprocket for the 02-08? Stock is 16t, you want to go down to a 15t right? It's right here: http://www.sprocketcenter.com/c/16176/1/vfr-800f-02-08.html

Hmm, you are right. I called looking for just the front sprocket, not the kit. That could have caused the confusion. Yet the link is suddenly there.

    Thanks for the help!!

hmm that means the 02-07 sprockets at Sprocket Specialists work as well then. Go figure.

i can vouch for sprocket center good service. I went 2 up on the back made 5th and 6th more usable .now speed odometer is 8% fast. if you go -1 in front its like going 3up in back

They were quick to reply to emails (+1). From what I read/observed, I thought it was more along the lines of +2 in the back, but who knows. I gathered that one is not required to change the OEM chain with just the -1 in the front (works, but not ideal).

It depends on if your stock sprocket ratio is from the 5th gen or 6th gen.

    Stock 5th 17/43

    Stock 6th 16/43

Since the 6th gen starts out a tooth lower in the front already, it affects the ratio or the difference a change in either sprocket will make.

Just divide the number of teeth on your rear sprocket by the number of teeth on your front sprocket to get the ratio. Use the RATIO to compare gear changes and not "number of teeth" because that will screw you up.

You can always use this website...but I've never had a use for it quite honestly.

    6th gen stock gearing 16/43:2.6875
    15/43:2.8666
    16/44:2.75
    16/45:2.8125
    16/46:2.875
Just so you know, -1 up front is closest to +3 in the rear.

ONLY if you start out with the initial 6th gen ratio 16/43 and not the 5th gen 17/43. Everyone always gets confused on this site by saying "so and so # of teeth on the front are equal to so and so # of teeth on the rear". It only works out that way if you've both started on the same exact ratio. That is all I said in my earlier post. It's better to discuss actual ratios

Thats why I said stock 6th gen gearing, and why I actually put the ratios out there, just in case some people didn't want to do the math for themselves, or get confused on how to do the math. Sorry if the was confusion.

Also just for reference the stock 5th gen gear ratio would be: 2.529

My new sprocket should arrive Thursday or Friday. Waiting for the speedo healer to arrive before I install it however.
