About to go install a Zero Gravity Double Bubble windscreen (smoke) and noticed there was no How To. I should have something up by the end of the night.

Great, you can post that one right next to Bubba's video of how to put your bike on the center stand.

Regardless of how simple it is, there are no posts and nothing on Wiki. Based on the jackass replies to this thread, I wont bother wasting my time.

vfrjon, don't take it personal, that's just this forums form of love. Just by the fact we all opened the thread we showed interest. I would be happy to see the install and also would like to hear your comments after the first ride behind the new windscreen. My 2007 is stock and I'm 6' 2". I wouldn't mind hearing about a windscreen with more protection for the taller rider.

LOL! Speaking of stands, though, a "how-to" might have been helpful to a person in a MSF basic rider's course I went to a couple of years ago.

This lady in our course had been riding on the back of her husband's Harley for over thirty years, and she decided she wanted her own to ride next to him.

So, the first day of class, we are riding these dinky little 250 street bikes of various makes and models. We ride in a line around a large oval marked by cones to start our day.

We are then all told to stop on a white line facing him. We do this. He tells us to dismount...we do.

All of a sudden there is a loud bang and a scream. She forgot to put her side stand down. Her left leg was pinned down under the bike.

Needless to say, after this happened A SECOND TIME later that day, and the fact that she lost control of the bike and hit the instructor while he was walking toward her the next day, she left after lunch break and never came back.

Something similar happened at my Basic Riders Course. So we make it to test day without anyone dumping their bike. We did have some close calls but all the bikes stayed upright.
I'm not sure if there is a standard test accross the country, to ours is easy is an understatement. Anyway, there is a portion of the test where one has to "quick stop". The rider gets to approx. 25-30 MPH and slams on the brakes. Must stop within a certain distance. One of the three femalesdecided to go a bit faster than she should have. That wasn't the issue, the issue came when she finally did stop she forgot to put her feet down to stay upright. The bike (with her still perched on top) just kind of tipped over really, really slow. Not to get a good laugh at the expense of someone else but it was just so comical to watch from accross the parking lot.

ZG DB doesn't seem to fit right

OK, I installed a ZG DB yesterday on my 6th gen, and noticed that the edge contours of the screen edge don't completely follow the bodywork of the bike. I am specifically referring to the upper part of the side edges of the screen. The screen contour follows the body contour until about 2" from the top edge of the screen. That's where the screen contour curves to the outside edge, while the body contour continues in a generally straight-up line. Has anybody else had this situation? I double checked the part no. (16-454) and it is correct according to the ZG site. I was able to get all the bolts back in, it just doesn't seem quite right. Any suggestions? Sorry no pics. I am visiting the parental units for a couple days and I don't have my camera.

Are you sure the retention hooks formed into the screen are frimly slid into the corresponding slots in the upper cowl....i have 3 ZG's and they fit perfectly.

I actually had the same problem. Turns out the screen from the 07 fits the 08, but not exactly, AND it only has 2 screws on the top instead of 4 like the OEM has. It also squeeks when going over bumps!

Yes, the hooks are completely into their slots. It's actually as if the screen would have to be moved up about two inches for the screen to fit correctly at the top, but then that would throw everything else off. It's just weird. It works, it's just a little off. The screen fits perfectly except for this area where the bodywork comes to a point/taper toward the top of the screen. I guess I'll just have to deal with it. This is installed on a 2007. If I start to get too obsessive, I'll just have to take a saw to it or something.

Well, I got a GIVI Touring screen for X-mas and it fits perfectly.

Take out the two philips screws (one on each internal plastic post). The black ABS posts have slots at the dash end of the windscreen that fit them into place. Remove the black ABS posts. Now, on each side there is a 5mm hex bolt holding the screen in place. It's about an inch long, so it takes a bit of turning to get it out. Once you break it loose and back it out a bit I suggest that you hand turn it so that it doesn't have a chance to fall down into your fairing. If that happens we all know it's a headache!

The fairing is now held in place by two slot hooks on both lower sides of the windscreen. Pull back slightly on the windscreen and then flex the upper edges and the windscreen should just pop out.

Position the new windscreen's hooks close or over their slots. Watch that the upper mount tabs of the windscreen are INSIDE the fairing. To do that you have to again flex the upper edges of the windscreen. I then matched the slot hooks of the GIVI windscreen to the slots on either side of the fairing and set them in using slight palm pressure on the lower center of the windscreen between the four slots. It actually clicked in place. Once that happened the screw holes were not yet lined up. A sharp smack with the palm of my right hand to the top edge of the windscreen, while holding the lower part of the windscreen in place with slight pressure on the front of the windscreen does the trick. I felt the windscreen slip down into it's rightful place. After that, it was just a nmatter of hand turning the long hex bolts into place, then tightening them down. Then put the black ABS pilars back into place and screw them in tight also.

You're done. It took me all of ten minutes. Very easy, just do it. But at least now you know that it's a 5mm hex bolt on the inside once you get the ABS pilars off the windscreen, and two large philips head screws on the pilars.

The GIVI does a very nice job. I am 6'2" and the stock screen was blasting me at the collarbone and upper pecks level. There was a lot of wind rush noise at highway speeds created by the stock screen right at the base of my helmets.

I took it out for a test run with the GIVI properly in place, purposely only wearing glasses. The wind now hits me right at eyeglass level. I felt no wind lower than the bridge of my nose. VERY NICE. I had the bike up to 80-90mph and my eyes were not tearing AT ALL. This is a very worthwhile upgrade people. I've owned ZG sport touring screens on many bikes and they really don't do much. This GIVI is a great product for my 2006 Interceptor!

I personally thought that the ZG screen was too thin and left gaps on the sides were the fairing meet.
BTW, thanks for the humor. You have to remmember that we expose ourselves every time we comment or start a subject.... ;)
