Ok, I got an 86 vfr700 and I noticed recently that the fan isn't kicking on and causing bike to overheat. Does anyone know what is the most common problem on these to cause this, I was thinking sensor, but I am no expert so I figured I come on here and asked how I should try and attack this problem first :) Any help would be appreciated!

    Fan

At the age of your bike it could be the fan motor , sensor or wiring. Simple system should be easy to correct. If you have queations let me know.

by far the most common failure item is the thermoswitch (sensor)that kicks on the fan.....go to left side of radiator and pull off the one wire to the switch, then ground the wire to engine or frame, and the fan should run.....

most riders simply replace the sensor with a $4 manual switch rather than send $60 to Honda.

You may have neglected to do a full safety check on the various systems before you started riding?? If your motor overheated and spit out coolant, you'll need to open rad cap and replace fluid that was lost.
