I am the second owner of a great 5th gen 2000 VFR and am about to change my spark plugs. I would like to know what you guys have found to work the best in your VFRs.

I just finished my 30,000 mile maintainance a month or so ago and I installed NGK Iridium CR9EHIX-9 6216, and I'm really impressed. The spark plugs are the only replacement parts and I was impressed with how sharp the engine feels. Of course the old plugs had 15,000 miles on them so you have to consider that too. But I'm happy.

Not sure about the VFR specifically, but Japanese equipment seems to really like NGK or Denso. Would I put autolite plugs in the VFR? Probably not...

I was thinking about the NGK plugs. The few places I have called for prices have offered up NGK Iridium for about 17$/ea and NGK something? for 19$/ea. A couple of places suggested Champion copper at 13/ea and Champion power? 9$/ea.

With out actually trying them all I guess I would lean toward the most expensive. They usually work the best but hey, thats why I'm asking you guys. Are the 100$ set of plugs that much better than the 50$ set of plugs? Hmmmmm?

I paid a touch over $36 including shipping for 4 of the NGK Iridium plugs. I thought that was too high, but I wanted to try the Iridium. There is no way I would pay more than that for plugs.

I have always owned Japanese bikes and have always used NGK. Can't go wrong with them. I have standard NGK's in my '98. From what I have read, the iridium may or may not give any performance help (not siginficant), but they should last longer. Considering how much of a PITA it is to change the plugs, I wish I would have spent the extra few bucks on the iridiums. Next time they will be going in.

I used Sparkplugs, don't use Glowplugs as I've heard people having problems with them.

Just joking +1 on the NGK Iridium CR9EHIX-9's. My 5th gen loves them.

Thanks for the input. I guess I will try the NGK iridiums. Can anyone recommend a site for low price plugs?

Is there a certain size or part number for a vfr? I need to change mine too.

And what about the Denso iridiums? Same as NGK?

I have NGK in all my Honda and Acura stuff.
Denis kirk has been where I have been shopping very quick for me.
I will pay for good customer service and have been very impressed with them.

Howdy All, My vote goes for the iridiums, Just a word of caution, they dont recommend
that you gap these plugs, supposed to just take them from the box and put them in.
The center conductor is about the diameter of a needle and is pretty fragile,I always eye ball them and if they look out of spec,I VERY CAREFULLY without touching the center conductor move the gap arm. I would never use a metal feeler gauge or wire gauge to gap them ,I generally use a piece of plastic that is close to the gapping spec. And as
the other guys stated their claim to fame is they last longer. eddie

I just put in the NGK iridiums yesterday. People were talking about these outrageous prices for them. I got them from a local shop for $8 a piece. Also, it only took me about 40 minutes to change them all. I was a little nervous when people were saying it took them 2-3 hours! Those front two are fun! Whoa.

Well I went to my local dealer yesterday and paid too much for plugs(just the recommended Honda NGK, not Iridium) and an air filter. It was such a nice day out and I had the whole day free so when they had the stuff in stock I just bit the bullet and got it. I have done so little maintenance on the bike since I got it. I really want to dig in to it this spring and get familiar with it. I took off the side panels, the half cowl and the rear plastic so I could inspect the rectifier and wiring as I replaced the air filter and plugs. The rear two were ok but the two in front were a bit of a concern because of the road dirt around the top of the plugs. I didn't have compressed air and just had to brush the dirt away as best I could. Anyway, everything is back together and she sounds fine. I am going on a big trip in June so I want to be ready. Next items of maintenance on my list include replacing brake fluid(going to be tricky I know), clutch fluid and fork oil. I have not checked for and threads on these. Hopefully there are some helpful info.
Thanks for the info on the plugs all. Cheers.

I pulled the NGK-R's out of kristins gen 3 and they were perfect. we got the bike beginning of last year and I think the dealer installed them then, slightly tan color and no fouling at all. ran them again this year. I installed the Iridium in my 04 FZ1 this year & it runs fine. maybe marginally better but the NGK-R's in that bike were nasty fouled, typical inline 4 R-1 motor i guess.

I went for the ngk iridiums myself. I found a deal on ebay selling four of them and with shipping they still came in way under what kragen was offering me... I try to support local business when I can but if it becomes a big price diff, I go cheap. I don't really notice a huge diff in performance, but I was told the iridiums last a little longer which means less changing plugs which is what I'm about.

+1 on not having to change them every 12K or whatever. The plugs I took out were fine, but since I bought the bike used, I had no idea of when they were changed last.
