I'm Rick from Central New York and am new here. I drove almost 300 miles today to look at a 1994 VFR because that's what my fiance said we should own and now we do! It was the first one I've ever been on with an aftermarket Givi windscreen and 1" bar risers and it seemed to fit like a glove! The problem: she is nervous riding without a backrest/top case. Does anyone beside Givi make them? Can they be had for under $400 for the case and mounting bracket or is there some kind of back rest for the VFR? Can't wait to start racking up the miles! rick
There is a member either on VFRdiscussion.com named "CanadianKen" or something and he makes a custom luggage rack for the VFR...but I'm not sure if it was meant for solo riding only or two up as well (I though it placed the luggage over the rear seat more.) Might be 5th gen and 6th Gen only models if I remember right as well... Sargent Seat Co.(aftermarket saddle preferred by most riders) USED to make a back rest that was secured to the passenger grab rail mounting points for the 5th gen. They are no longer in production. Corbin, I believe still sells a saddle called the Gunfighter and Lady which has an optional back stop if I remember right for 5th and 6th gens. I am not sure about the availability for your year/model of bike though. Someone else will have to chime in with info on the older generations like yours.
Corbin does make a seat with optional backrest for 4th and 5th gen VFRs. They also make a topcase. Both are a bit pricey, but either will do the job.
Both corbin and sargent still make the seat-back attachment for the 4th gen. take a look at my photo gallery [LINK] for an idea how the corbin looks. albeit, mine's a 6th gen, you get the idea. with this setup, you're looking at around $600. it's not exactly rock solid sturdy, but it's mainly an added piece of mind that she won't go flying off the back. with either of these seats you're also looking at several hours in the saddle with ease.
