Today I rediscovered the pure joy of Motorcycles, it has been missing for about 6 years since I sold the GSXR 750 and went the cruiser route, it will never happen again!

Me and three newly found buddy's "FZR 1000, R1 Yamaha and a Triumph Speed Triple went riding on the most perfect Western Washington tree lined twistys I have ever seen, doing the perfect corner really made me feel alive again on this spirited pace.

The riding skills came back very quickly and I felt I could pass at almost any time with the three bikes with over 220 cc advantage, (The R1 rider was very good and not sure on that one) But being on a first time ride with the three buddy's I decided to play the respectable newbie "Safety First" and ride the caboose and observe the lines all three bikes were taking.

After about 50 miles we pulled over and took a break, and during the conversation the 93 FZR rider mention he just got his license after he passed the Washington license requirements, I made a mental note and didn't think to much more about it.

The order was R1, FZR, Triumph and VFR during the second 50 miles and was one of my favorite sections of all time, what a set of twisty's!!! I was keeping my RPM's between 6-11 going in and out of the perfect sweepers and this was setting up to be the ultimate perfect day, 80 degree's, deep blue sky, perfect air quality and no cops within 30 miles, and then it happened. FZR rider going into a 25mph downhill C curve with a bad line and soon as he hit the rocky sandy dirt off the road, his bike washed and all of his weight came down on his shoulder and the bike went sliding into a ditch. We all pulled over to make sure he was O.K. and after getting him back to his feet it was determined it was his collarbone. Sent the triple rider back to get a pickup and he came back 2 hours later to pick up the bike. All things considered, it could have been worse, but he had full leathers on and everybody that was behind was a good safe distance.

But back to the VFR, I really was pretty happy with the performance and after putting the Staintunes on, Now I see what everybody's talking about on that V-4 sound  The only thing I got to dial in is the suspension, but that was my fault for not setting the adjustments before the ride, it was set for highway use.

The only thing I have left to say is why didn't you guys tell me about this fabulous bike before!!!

    Hey R.W.
Glad to read your enjoying the hell out of the bike - seems like you picked the perfect day & roads to get out and about on. Now you understand the reason behind the smug smile of every viffer rider you ever came across before - 600 miles in the saddle, no problem - take to the twisties and scare some of the faster bikes - no sweat.

Down this way we have some States that require to you hold a provisional licence with a 250cc bike. Others need you to choose one from a list of bikes with a certain power to weight ratio. Its taken some of the numbers down on newbie riders who hurt themselves - just need to keep working on getting the tin tops to see us before its too late!

    Cheers,

Great fun to read your post! That's the sort of ride we here in Central FL dream about. (except for the crash of course!) It gets old hammering the cloverleafs and on-ramps around Orlando and wearing out the center of your Metzelers. I'd love to get up to N. GA or Carolina for a few days of mountain riding. Anybody up in those areas want to show a new guy around?

Thanks again for the post. I'll enjoy your ride vicariously!

    Ride Safe!

Still very new to the area but here is what I know for sure. Started in Bremerton, rode to Seaback, then to Holly and after that it was all twistyville!
I know we was only about 12 miles to Belfair when the incident occurred. We was only in the second hour of a scheduled 7 hour ride...
