Question?.... For TT2E's owners, that have their gps(TT) wired to the vfr's battery with a hot fused + powercord.
What I'm wondering is if you detach it from the quick release base.....and leave the base unit hot wired to the mc battery....Is there any draw from the battery caused by the tt base unit still being connected ? .....I thinking the way "I" (Tightwad) have it wired all I need to do is use the quick release to detach the TT from it's base and I'm gold, and not have to disconnect the base from the bikes power cord....Does thet sound right?

Also you Guys should know "Tightwad" is the man! He set me up with a fused wiring harness/rigged for my VFR and TT Rider 2nd Edition Gps....which is routed from the mc battery though the steering stem to a flip top covered powerlet plug....All the connections were right where they were the most handy, and the same with the wires being the correct length.......

I've just been having too much fun riding on unknown (to me) back roads in my area (5 to a 100 mile area),now that I have a gps, I just ride down a paved road that I have no idea where it's going, til I see another paved road that goes "I know not where".... and keep doing it til I'm absolutely lost and keep looking for more challenging roads........Then when I'm ready to come home I turn on the gps and hit the "Home Icon"..........And it's not that I haven't done this to some existent, before I had a gps......But it's mind boggling how much free're it feels to ride without trying to calculate how to get back from any given position......For all you Pip's who've never tried a GPS....Hummmmmm ? ? ?.........Monk

I have mine wired directly to the battery. It stays on even when the ignition is turned off. I know that were I to leave it in the cradle, it'll kill my battery. It's incentive for me NEVER to forget to remove it and take it with me. A dead battery and a missing gps will be painful. I have tried the unknown wandering before, and it's phenomenal.

Tomtom has rescued me from hairy situations before, so I'm very content with the brand.

Cradle won't draw from the battery without the unit.

Thx .That's what I wanted to know......No worries' mate.......I'm not about to leave the bike unattended, with the unit installed......But when it's parked in my garage,I wanted to know what draws.
By the way,you said your's is on when you turn the bike off.........Mine does too....But I can turn off the unit power button on the right, and the unit turns off.........Now I wonder if that will draw with the unit but still installed........Huummmm?

I do know that the TT in my cage still charges itself when it receives power from the battery. I'll venture to say that it will draw at the very least, miniscule power to trickle charge itself. Sorry to disappont you, Monk, but I will not be performing this experiment on your behalf .

It's too much trouble to push against that power button. I usually have to take my glove off. If you want to leave the unit in, you may simply slide it up slightly so that the pins are not in contact with the cradle. You'll know when this happens as your unit will turn off.

When you are ready to head out, a quick tap/push on the top of the unit will click it back into place, and you'll be on your way.

    No worries, Monk.

I haven't taken my viffer to any questionable neighborhoods, but I'll venture to say that I don't see the value anyone will derive from trying to steal your mount. The resale value certainly can't be worth the trouble of successfully getting them out.

A bike is not like a car in which a thief can see a gps mount and then break in to try to find the unit. Our viffers don't have radios, amplifiers, or subwoofers they can make away with. They'll also certainly need more than a screwdriver to get anything off. What are the odds that they'll have the right sized wrench or allen wrench on hand?

I can only see vandalism, but not theft. IMHO, stealing a bike mount will be like stealing a laptop power adapter. What are the odds that you'll be able to find someone who uses the EXACT laptop it is for if you steal one?

Let to me, it only takes me two seconds to remove the TT2 and take it with me. A replacement mount and cradle will run me about 100 bucks, versus 600 for a new system. I'll gamble with the base.

Worry about the unit, Bud, and forget about the base.
