Help on suspension setup for '83 VF750F

    Any advice on how to setup the suspension for my '83 VF750F? I'm 5'10 and ~160 lbs. Currently the front fork's dial on the right is set to 3 and the rear shock is set to 3 (i believe). This is working well for me, much better than the 1 in the front, 2 in the rear i had before. I know the front fork has another adjustment towards the wheel, not sure what that one does.

    I have a '83 VF750F Also ( LOVE THE BIKE), The adjustment on the fork( the left fork) it's Called TRAC It's pretty much an anti dive set up suppose to keep the forks from compressing to fast.
    There is also an air valve under the left fork cap unscrew it and add up to 6psi. There is also an air hose for the rear shock under the left side cover that one you can put up to 43psi. Hope this helps.

    What does the dial on the top of the right fork do? I didn't know you could add air to the forks or the rear shock, the hose on my rear shock has holes in it...so I can't really add air in it. I presume the dial on the rear shock controls dampening. Is there any reason not to set the TRAC to 4? (maximum)


    Edit: I just added ~6psi to the front forks as indicated by my tire pressure gauge which probably isn't accurate at such low pressures. The bike sort of "shot up" when I did it. At first the suspension seemed *very* stiff, but later on it seemed softer. Not sure if its any stiffer (or if thats what adding air even does.)

    The dial on the right fork controls dampening, But with just one side doing all the work it's not all that good. If you plan on keeping your VFF for awhile there are a few things you can do. 1) replace the rear shock ( you really can't find stock ones and there are a few choices to replace it.) I went to Dave Quinn Motorcycles for my rear shock. There are other options. Check Out Daugherty Motorsports - Motorcycle Suspension Performance and Modification He works with all the VFF to VFR bikes. Well hope this helps take care.
