Will the rear seat cowling fit over the sargent? What did it cost? That much difference?

Yes on the fit. Price varies upon from whom you purchase. You can usually find one on the For Sale section here. I don't know about the difference as I installed my Sergent just after getting the bike, and never put that much seat time on the stock seat.

To continue our discussion a bit, to me ergos are hugely important in riding a motorcycle. Having experimented with seat shape in varying degrees on other motorcycles including seat tilt adjusted by the rubber bumpers underneath I have to say that the angle of the seat surface is critical to comfort in terms of tendency to slide forward and hand pressure on the handlebars. The Sargent seat addresses this as their engineers apparently understand this tradeoff and it is unclear why Honda continues to have a clear slant to their factory seat. For those that like to mod things a bit like I do and perhaps want to tinker with their stock VFR seat, just below is an excellent link which shows modification to a VFR seat in effect replicating what Sargent figured out in their testing.

Also below is a picture of another owner that modded his seat shape...building it up in front and lowering it in the rear...what the stock VFR seat needs IMO.

I am of the school that there is no need to live with sliding forward and undue hand pressure on the handlebars. With a seat adjustment and perhaps a minor tweak to the handlebars, I don't believe there is a more comfortable motorcycle out there then the VFR.

    Good Pics KC,

when I ride at legal speeds and in traffic I shift forward up to the tank to keep my COG in the middle of the bike. I guess i don't have large jewels they never seem to be bothered by this. At higher speed (illegal in most states LOL Don't try this at home I am a trained professional) I slide my butt back against the welt on my Sargent seat after I shift to 5th gear I put my feet on the pillion pegs and lay on the tank and then make the jump to light speed. Stuff is happening so fast at this point the jewels are the least of my cares(but I am not uncomfortable at all). the air is thin around 140 MPH. you (I) feel so alive this close to death. It is generally only one mistake away. Always wanted to be a fighter pilot.

it doesn't fit on the 5g but it does on the 6g. not sure if the 6g is a 2 piece like the one I have. Mine looks like KC10's without the pinstripe so I'm guessing I have the world sport also.

    George,

that yellow bike with the owner modified seat just may be the ugliest seat I have ever seen. I guess it's comfortable, but DAMN! I will sacrifice a bit of comfort for a little style. YUCK!

I guess my arms are short. I raised the stock clip-ons to the snap rings. When I ride slow, I have to scoot all the way forward and nut up to the tank. This is the only way to get upright. When I ride fast, I scoot back and lay across the tank, elbows and knees in tight. Different bars are in my future, but this is how I ride stock.

    Hi Reg,
Yeah it ain't pretty and we are all slaves to the fashion police. It didn't help that the guy used old tee shirts to stuff the thing with.
The other gent who put together the excellent link is...well...talented. I put that in there for reference to those that may want to tweak their seat. This can be done in varying degrees and not that hard to do. I am more inclined to just buy a excellent Sargent seat and be done with it. Any other tweaking can be done by adjusting the seat from underneath with some subtle shimming of the front and/or shortening of the seat bumpers in back. A quarter of an inch change in foam height or under seat shimming makes a big different in rider CG and comfort from personal experience.
    Cheers,
    George

I'm considering having the stock seat modified. I don't really care for the cheap feeling exterior, but I live in NC and am considering the place that does custom seat mods. I have heard good things about what they do. Here is the link:

Mean City Cycles Custom Seat Modifications :: Home

I'll post up some pics if I get it done
