Not sure if this is an April fools joke as it posted on the 1st April but was just reading an online Motorcycle where they say 2.1 million acres of public land now exclude trail bikes is this true ?

" AMA lobbying fails to stop the rot
    Wednesday, 1 April 2009
An off-road riding area two-thirds the size of greater Sydney - 8093 square kilometres - has been 'lost' in America, following the passing of a bill to ban motorised vehicles from more than 2.1 million acres of public land.

Despite intense lobbing by the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA), the lawmakers approved H.R. 146, known as the Revolutionary War and War of 1812 Battlefield Acquisition Grant Program. Congress' first attempt to pass this measure was initially defeated before new life was breathed into it.

"The measure unreasonably bans motorised recreation on 2.1 million acres of public lands by inappropriately designating it as Wilderness," said AMA Vice President for Government Relations Ed Moreland. "This is a sad day not only for responsible motorised recreation, but also for a democratic process that is supposed to welcome public input and the opportunity for congressional review.

"For example, House members never debated more than 70 of the bills included in this package before the vote."

The measure, which now goes to President Obama to be signed into law, means that motorised vehicles won't be allowed include parts of the Monogahela National Forest in West Virginia; Jefferson National Forest in Virginia; Mount Hood, Badlands, Spring Basin and Copper Salmon areas in Oregon; Sabinoso in New Mexico; Riverside County in California; and Washington County in Utah. 1) Greeny Eco-Nazi's usually get what they want.

    2) All too often, irresponsibility & carelessness is the norm on off-road trails/parks.

    3) Lack of concern. The "It's Not My Problem, Man" syndrome.

    4) Don't know what you got till it's gone.

    Pick any one you like.

This is a classic example of how the motorcycling community let itself down.

I've been offered offroad/MX bikes several times but I never buy them. Why? Simple, there is no place in NJ where it's worth the effort to ride them. If memory serves, there are only 2 off-road parks in the entire states. The only one near me is in the town of Chatsworth, NJ. The fines for getting caught outside an off-road park start at START at $1000. If that sounds ridiculous (& it is) & someone choses to question that this is true, I can take a photo of the sign & post it. The signs are all over the Pine Lands.

    1st Offense = $1000 Fine
    2nd Offense = $1000 Fine & 30 Day Impoundment
    3rd Offense = $1000 Fine & Confiscation

I am not familiar with the fines or areas in North NJ, only South NJ.

    Sound valid answers:

On 1) if its something similar to here where National Parks have been ruled offlimits to MX type bikes but still allow registered bikes fire trails unfortunately the Greenies are pushing to shink those areas as well.

on 2) was watching some Youtube clips on " bush bashing " and " Mud bogging " the other day and wondered if those err sports had some bearing on it ?

on 3) & 4) What's the difference between ignorance and apathy?
    I don't know and I don't care.

One of the reforestry areas near my place has banned all MX and ATV use inside its limits due to the 0.1% of idiots who run off the trails or turn any marshy area (even those with signage saying its off-limits/protected ) into mud bogs. The ATV and MX clubs are a little P.O.'d as they put in the majority of the trails that are now designated for hiking, biking, and X-country skiing. A few greenies started all of this the politicians got scared and gave them what they want, they focused on the minority and decided to ban the majority.
