There is a sound coming from my gastank when I leave a stoplight.
It is a metallic "plonK" sound.
Could it be the fuel slopping back and hitting the tank or is there something hanging in my tank that is making the noise?
    Is it a gremlin?
Hrm... any one else with a first gen notice anything like that?

So that's where my golf ball went :> there are tubes in your tank I think?? that's what the gas is hitting. makes a strange sound when the tank is low on fuel.

You are supposed to yell "fore" or something.

Um, interesting theory. I will listen to see if it makes a differance what level the fuel is at.

anyone else have any ideas? or missing golf balls?

I dont know what chain slap sounds like, but this is definatly coming from the gas tank region, and the hollow sound it makes reminds of of moving a half drum full of oil when I worked at a lube shop ( the oil builds a little tidal wave up and slaps the inside of the tank ). What is chain slap?

How fast are you leaving the stoplight? Ha Ha My chain is loose, I know needs replaced, so it is slapping against the gaurd a bit as I leave a stop.

I dont have a light, but I do have a gauge, I think I will have to pull the tank and investigate once I am low on gas, that is valid point for sure.

    Wierd noise on takeoff

My Interceptors (83,84,85) make the same noise as you are describing. It happens when the tank is full or close to full. I am pretty sure that it is the gas float tapping the inside of the tank when the gas is sloshed back.
