I am brand new here and hope you can give me some advice. I have a 1984 VF750 interceptor that has ran well since i bought it 8 years ago. I rode most of last summer without problems until one day in august I got on the intersate I hammered on it pretty good on the on ramp and about 1/2 mile down the rode it bogged down and died. After a few attempts it finally started but would only run with the choke on. I slowly limped it home and just before i got there it started to rev up and run normal. I started it the next day and went for a ride and about five blocks down the road it bogged and died again. Due to time constraints (work, school, kids, divorce etc.) I did not have time until recently to start working on it. I have changed the oil, replaced all the plugs (good spark), replaced the fuel filter and drained and replaced the gas in the tank. I am wondering if it is a fuel pump/relay problem or if it could be debris in the tank or if it is the carbs.
I will try to help you Hey If the bike can run on choke then it is not anything to do with the sparks. But spark unit 1&3 control tachometer and sparkunit 2&4 control the fuel relay.I would start putting wire over the fuel relay and then try to start then you can see if the relay or pump are given up.But first I would the hose that goes from pump to carbueator apart so you can see if it pumping gasoline out when you crank. Best regards Gunnar
If you find nothing wrong there Hey If every thing at top checks out, then you need to check the carbs.Wrong set choke, gasket ruined or something else.So can you also compress test the cylinders just to rule that out. Best regards Gunnar
