I have a 1998 VFR. I had to take off the front wheel to fix the rim leak.
The ~10k miles on the pads had worn a bit so I got some EBS HH.

I read a few threads here on pad replacement but some don't synch. Anyway the manual tells me to unscrew the brake pad pin cover and then remove the brake pad pin. But how do I do the latter? Do I bang the pin through from the other site (where it is protruding a bit) and drive it out the hole from where I removed the pin cover?
Nothing seems to move except the pads sliding on the pins. I bolted the calipers onto the bike for support but am stumped on how to get the pins out.
(Other threads mention only removing clips but I have pins.)

    Thx!

Eek, don't bang the pin out. It unscrews. After you unscrew the pin cover (with a big flat-blade screwdriver) put an allen wrench in there and unscrew the pin. On my '96 it's a 5mm, not sure about the '98.

Thanks. I shoulda worn my cheater glasses into the garage. I never saw the hex.
It would be nice if the service manual was that specific.

Ugh, I'm doing the exact same project. I've tried every flat blade screwdriver in the garage and it just wants to round off the screw head. I guess I'll soak it with WD-40 overnight and then buy a really huge flat blade since the screw heads seem to protrude out just slightly. It's always the 10 minute jobs that end up being weekend projects. I don't get it.

Ah, you mean the caps? Use a wide blade -- maybe tap gently on them a bit to else use Coke :)
The inner pins were easy using a Hex.

5/16" flat blade screwdriver is what mine want.
