IMO the Touring screen is horrible looking. I would never degrade my bike by beating it with the ugly stick. I think the double bubble is Ok looking and I'm sure it improves the ride quality but my choice is Stock replacement screen by Zero Gravity. You have to ask your self how ugly are you willing to make your bike look to better your wind protection.

This is going to be one of those items you almost have to test for yourself. Each person has different riding position, torso height and "seat height". I tend to sit more vertical on the street so the stock one really didn't work for me. The double bubble moved the wind right over the top of my helmet. It's far from pretty but it does the job I need it to.

It comes down to form vs. function. I have ridden both, 5th ang 6th gen machines and I have noticed that the stock 5th gen screen provides less protection from windblast than the 6th. So, it is my opinion that, for a 5th gen, if you are concerned about improving protection from the wind and preserving the look, double bubble would be my choice. If you don't care about the look of the screen and are just looking for increased protection, then the ST screen would be better. If you have a 6th gen, the double bubble will provide good protection and looks.

I've got a double bubble on my 5th gen right now and I think it has good function and looks way better then the stock one.

But I have a zero gravity touring that I'm going to install for the winter months, if it works better then the DB I'll leave it on till spring, if not its gone and back to the DB.

Double Bubble vs. Stock Wind Screen

Hi, I've recently installed a Zero Gravity Double Bubble instead of the stock windscreen on my 2008 VFR.
I'm 6'2" tall and usually sit pretty straight. I even equipped my bike with Helibars. Although I enjoy the wind while I ride, I often ride real fast and I was hoping that the DB would provide some better wind protection. No question, the DB does reduce the wind.

However, it seems to me that the bike is somewhat less stable than it was with the stock windscreen. It's really hard to say for sure, but I think that in high speeds the bike wobbles a bit more and also (maybe because of the added air pressure), it seems to shift more weight onto the rear wheel and less on the front wheel.
I have only ridden maybe 100 miles with the new DB windscreen and perhaps something else was wrong with the bike or maybe there were side winds or other factors so I'm not completely sure but I am considering replacing it back with the stock windscreen.

I was wondering if any of you had a similar experience or if someone can enlighten me on this.

    Thanks in advance,

    --ilan

I was told my bike came with " sport touring" wind screen. whoops, I lied. I guess you can still get it. I looked again today and found some info in the link below. Looks like it is the Targa Tall wind screen. Can't tell if it's light or dark smoke. I couldn't find anything about when I was looking last year. Go figure.

I just installed an Airblade Double Bubble dark smoke screen on my 4G.

It was somewhat warped, and did not install correctly, on the left side the screen cracked about 1/2" when the mirror bolt was tightened HALF WAY. I loosened it, and got the blowtorch out and warmed it up and tightened the bolt once it was hot. Not terribly happy with the quality of this unit.

No worries - the plexi looks terrible where it was heated up (bubbled up), but it is all hidden once the trim pieces are re-installed.

As far as function is concerned, I think it's great. I used to get a nasty blast of wind on my chest when riding on the highway, that's totally gone now. Fashion-wise, I'm still getting used to how tall it is, and how NON-transparent it is (must be 99% tint). But as far and I am concerned, it's a great addition to the bike.

Anyone else notice there is more wind noise with the ZG double bubble? I seem to have more wind noise then with the stock screen which just mainly blew wind at my neck.

I'm still running the stock windshield. I bought a used double-bubble (in "smoke") last year but only ran it a few days. It looked OK but I didn't like the fitment. And I'm not tall enough to have really noticed any difference.

I don't think touring screens are the least bit ugly, just different. In fact I rather think the flip type look kinda' trick!

And IMO the VFR needs help very badly... I used to get better upper body wind deflection from my quarter-faired cafe' bikes in the '70's!

Wanted the GIVI tour but couldn't find one for my 4th gen so I ordered a MRA Vario, just picked it up today and have yet to fit & testride.

Hope I even have a chance to, it is December after all! :frown:

Iv the givi touring screen on mine- i'll admit its not as good looking as the db but- it throws the wind perfectly over my shoulders and head(5'10), however i dont really mind what the bike looks like my one is for function and commuting so up to you!

I am not sure if its also offered by Honda dealers in the USA, but in Europe the official Honda accessory catalogue http://ww1.honda.co.uk/mcstatic/en/product/accessoriesPDF/2009Range/VFR800.pdf offers this part 08R80-MCW-801 - High windshield. Its a touring screen, which is 5cm higher than standard which meets the European Safety Homologation Rules. Its does not sound much higher, but the effect is impressive. One of the Swiss riders I sometimes meet up with, has one fitted to his 6th Gen, and I persuaded him to swap rides for the day, and really did not want to give it back. I'm now saving up to buy one.

Exactly! It depends on how tall you are and where you like the air to hit you.
