    Hi All,

I have noticed that when my bike cold and I engage 1st gear it glides right in with no "clunk". However, once the bike is warmed up it is quite noticeable going from neutral to 1st.

Is this normal? Anyone have the same thing happening?

The noises on my 07 changed between 5 and 10k miles. It does not 'clunk' as much, but still will occationally throw the false neutrals - then there's a big 'CLUNK' getting it back into gear even when I'm trying to be gentile. your mileage may vary

If you think the VFR clunks ride a goldwing they clunk in all gear like the tranny is broke.

Had the same problem so I took it apart and found nothing wrong! So I talked to my buddy who is a Honda Tech with 14 years under his belt! He said it's the nature of the beast! Just remember to change your oil during your riding season when you should and your Vffer will be ok, this is his advice and I trust him with my bike!

    Cheers

    Mine too

Yep my 02 Vtec clunks from Nuetral to first
but once mobile I don't notice anything (Too much other noise happening)
I never get a missed gear (false nuetral)
I am surprised to hear others do
I had a Suzuki GS650 which used to get missed gears & rev its titts off, very embarrasing!

In my experience Hondas trannys tend to clunk more than other bikes. Not really a flaw, more of an characteristic of Honda gearboxes. I have found this in someway comforting that when you hear the clunk you you are positive that the gear has engaged properly. For instance with my yamaha that I had you could find a "neutral" between every gear if you really gently lifted the lever so that it did not engage properly. This is close to impossible in my opinion to do with a Honda.

Ditto to the above. You can just tell that the big 'CLUNK' is coming after the false. Other than stopping and letting the transmission wind down there's nothing that helps.
