You let the bike sit for a while and see if it has better luck then? If you have to crank 3 times to get it to start, you've got other issues. Though I'm not sure if you're saying 'start three times' that you start once, ride for a bit, shut off, start again and ride, shut off and attempt to start again; or you're just pushing the start button 3 times. If the latter is the case you may be overheating the wiring or the motor itself; heat makes conductors less conductive.

However, the most likely culprit is your Regulator Rectifier and/or stator, once either of those are toast the bike will start and run when freshly charged and the system(s) may make enough juice to KEEP it running, but not necessarily enough to sustain the battery in a charged state.

Charge the battery on a 1.5-2amp charger for 8 hours once it's dead; start the bike. Get a Multimeter (Voltmeter) on the battery terminals while the bike is running; you should be somewhere in the range of 14 volts. Anything significantly more or less indicates a problem with the electrical system.

If you find a problem, DO NOT run the bike before you really shoot yourself in the foot and ruin your brand new battery and the rest of your electrical system that may still be functioning correctly.

Don't crank for more than about 10 seconds at any one time, and let starter cool between cranks or it could be damaged.

Seems like a bad battery you have there.

(Always helps to state exactly what year and model bike you have)

He said it was a brand new battery; not sure if that's "Freshly Charged" brand new or off the shelf dealer brand new.

Even a fresh, new battery needs proper charging,
not just add acid and go........

His exact words were "Brand new freshly charged" he also seems to have implied that he's recharged the battery before after its died and it keeps dying on him.

Then again, the OP doesn't seem to be one for specific details, so who knows, haha.
