Randy, if you have a local humidor, see if they hanve Acid Krush Classic. They are smaller cigars, don't cost nearly as much and have a sweeter wrapper somewhat like the swisher sweets. They are not high end but they are not bargain basement either. After trying several of the more expensive ones, I went back to these because they don't take as long to smoke. I like them, AND they come in a tin with a sportbike print on it... cool huh?

Seriously, though. I do not smoke that often so the big ones just overpower me. These seem to work just right for that rare occasion where I want to smoke. My local guy sells them for around $1.35 ea or $13.50 for a tin of 10. I like to go there and buy a few at a time so he foots the bill for the humidor and the shipping and I like the smell of walking in the shop and smelling all those different tobaccos mixed together...

Smoked a new stick tonight after the first really goooood ride after the winter. It was a Hoyo De Monterey Dark Sumatra. Damn, what a kick ass smoke. Nice thick smoke, good aroma, even better flavor. All this for the paltry sum of $3.25 a stick. HIGHLY recommended.

What made this cigar even better was the fact I got it for free. I was at a hotel in Tampa & I found a live cock roach in my bath tub. I mentioned it to the front desk & they were appalled. They asked what they could do to make me happy.

I jokingly said, "Give me a couple of smokes from that humidor over there".

They said, "No Problem, here's the key, pick out which ones you want."

How can you argue with that?

Nice deal from the hotel...hell, I think I'll bring some cockroaches with me if I ever go to a hotel with an in house humidor....

    In other news...

    SCHIP tax....

    IT'S COMING! lol

I don't know why people are making such a big deal about it...it's not a huge deal unless you smoke way too often for your own good. Hell, Michigan already has a 30% wholesale price tax going. (and people wonder why I order all my cigars online from PA lol)

I've been ordering from CI or Famous Cigar for awhile and both have great service, definitely . Enjoying a Rocky Patel Connecticut 2nd from Famous right now.

But they're on the east coast and ground delivery takes a week here to the west coast or I have to pay $10 for 2 day UPS, which I prefer to minimize the time the sticks spend in the back of a hot truck.

Is there a west coast supplier that has the same level of service and supply so I can cut down on delivery times and cost?

I have run into the same thing. CI is where I go if I do any mail order and they sure have some great sales sometimes. My local humidor is good, though and he doesn't try to gouge on the prices as far as I can tell. I think a Dirt Torpedo cost me $6.95 the other day which is a little more than it used to be but it's nice for an occasional treat. I bought a jucy lucy and it was good but it was $6 and there aint much to it. may as well pay the extra buck and get the dirt. can't beat his deal on the Acid Krush, though. He sells a lot of them I guess.

I'm not sure of a west coast supplier... most of the big companies are in PA due to the taxes. Everything has gone up in price though due to SCHIP coming into effect this spring. Which definitely doesn't help out the local guy here in Michigan where the state tax was already 30% of wholesale.

I agree with you guys though...standard ground sucks for you guys. Only 3 days max for me...if I have the patience(I'm weak for next day smokes lol).

One thing to watch for though, is the Joe Cigar daily deal on CI. It gives you a free shipping on your order and even gives you a discount on express shipping methods if you want those. I think next day was $15 bucks with the free ground shipping credit...IIRC. I haven't ordered off of CI since last summer so don't hold me to it. I buy most of my stock off of their auction site CigarBid.com now.

No matter what company or shipper you use, you should let any new smoke you buy "stabilize" in your humidor for at least a week or 2 before smoking it. This will allow the humidity level in the humidor to recover from putting in a dry/drier cigar in & allow the moisture content in the cigar to stabilize in the desired 70% - 74%.

Cigars International is still my company of choice. Next week, a few friends & I are going to a place in Philly called Holts.

Cigars International - discount cigars, humidors, cigar accessories

Holt's Cigar Company - Everything Cigars Since 1898!

so... been reading through this and if i missed it, my appologies...

    Have your wife join you...
offer her one of the following, she will NOT be disappointed.
1: Acid Blondie by Drew Estate
    2: Moon Trance by CAO

Wonderful cigars both, (even i enjoy them once in a while, and no, i don't shave my legs) Every woman i've shared these with has enjoyed one or a few of these and all tend to order them by the box after the introduction...

As for me, I love the Montecristo Series V (5) but they are hard to find... but a terrific cigar.

That being said, if it has not been covered, lighting the cigar is the critical step... never let the flame hit the end and create carbon, rather, you want to 'toast' the end, turning the cigar as you go to get the end and wrapper uniformly lit... also, once well lit, one gentle puff 'out' (not a draw but a push) will purge the cigar of any carbonized smoke that may have entered... reducing the chance of any 'off' flavor that may have entered...

    just my experience...

    Enjoy!

Something to do when the weather isn't promoting fun riding is to hit the local cigar bars once a week or so and collect the butts.

Soaked in plain water for a few days then strained out, the liquid makes a great woodstain. The same liquid in a dilute form can be used to kill aphids on rosebushes.

If one is fortunate enough to live in a place where there are snoose bars, all the better, usually no added liquid is necessary. Be sure and check first. Some snoose bars fill the spitoons with kitty litter. (attapulgite clay)

So I don't know what happened, but these prices are long gone. Apparently a tax went up somewhere or something because these Acid Krush cigars are now over $3 at my local guys place. The dirt torpedo in now about $7 compared to about $5 just a year ago. Even the Acid Blondie which is a smallish cigar was over $5. I try to keep my money local if I can but if this keeps up I may have to buy or build a humidor and order everything...

btw, I got a Drew Estate Jave that I plan to try tonight. I am looking forward to it because I am such a hge fan of coffee. I hope I am not let down. I generally like their tobacco...

those davidoff millenium's are friggen high! How about the new ones? I never saw your review of them... I'll try and post up what I think of the new ones I picked up today. Ours tastes are different but I still like reading what everyone thinks about the different cigars...

Yup, SCHIP taxes went into effect April 1st, 2009. Something like 50% tax on wholesale prices for cigars, with a cap at under 50cents... and cigarettes went up a buck a pack.

ACTUALLY...here's an article(LINK) about it. 52.75% tax with a 40 cent cap on cigars. So your increases match the tax hike. Sucks doesn't it?

EDIT: Just be happy it wasn't the original proposal of $1-1.50 per cigar!!!!

I smoked a Gurkha Sherpa last night. Nice mild smoke with good flavor. Had distinctive "nutty" taste to it that I liked. Smoked it down to the nub. Great smoke for the money($2-$2.50 stick).

I got it as part of a "Kitchen Sink Sampler" on CigarBid for $42.50 (20 cigars). It's normally $60 on CI unless it's on sale. Just one reason why I shop CI's CigarBid instead of the regular site.

I'll probably have another cigar from the sampler tonight and enjoy the 80 degree weather we're having in Michigan!
