need more info one what you have tried , ie.....check fuel filter , battery is charged. can't help with just saying it won't start. there is a fuse right on top of the starter solenoid.

Connect the solenoid straight with jump cable.

did you check the fuse on top of the starter solenoid, if that is good then you have a bad solenoid. you can go to the dealer or e-bay to get a new one.

a solenoid will be a lot cheaper at a lawnmower shop

could be a clutch safety switch as well.... be sure the bike is in neutral when you try to start it

when you depress the starter button, does the headlight shut off... could be a dirty/bad starter switch

is the kill switch in the on position

    is the key on

i have a 98 but... scope the main fuse, might be blowing. make sure you are getting power to the fuel pump.
now it IS or IS NOT turning over?
if its not turning you probly are not getting power to the starter.
if it is turning, might be fuel related, i.e., fuel pump, main fuse, maybe even the infamous R/R reg. rectifier?

trace the pos/neg from the bat to the starter and solenoid, also use a voltage testor to make sure you find where the power stops. you are sure the bat. is new? make sure that has enough cranking amps to turn her over. look for blown fuses while you trace the wires

The headlight is supposed to dim. Does your solenoid make a click? Inspect it for corrosion - it's very common. Replace if corroded.

Also jiggle the ignition key with the start button pressed - maybe it's in the ignition switch?

Batteri is maybe dead or starter motor taking to much amps

    Hey

Check the batteri if that is okay then use amper meter to see how much he is taking he shouldn´t go over 25-30amps.It can also be when you try to start it shoots between the plus cable witch goes in the starter motor and the body.

    Best regards

    Gunnar

    Check the amps

    Hey

Had this problem with my bike light dims with full charged batteri then after to or three tempts to start the batteri is flat but you can hear the solinoid. This is your starter motor taking to much amps clearing out the batteri your plus pole on your batteri should be warm and your starter motor also. You can not see anything that is wrong with your motor beacause it is short curcuit.Use a amper meter to see this.YOU HAVE MOST LIKELY FRIED STARTER MOTOR.Your coils inside the starter motor are probarly vanished now.

How could this NOT be a bad starter relay??

IF she cranks with a screwdriver across the contacts it can't be anything else. Replace it.
