I have a 2003 vfr800, and need a set of forks. I am curious if anyone knows the measurements of the fork sizes. I am also wondering if forks from a 1998 vfr800 will fit up to my 2003? Anyone know if this would work, or of anywhere I could pick up a set of forks for less than an arm and a leg? Thanks!

not sure with the fitment with 6th gens but I do know that the other part of the equation is the lower fork legs, as you'll need to match up the brake calibers too, so I'd say you're going to have to stay with 2002 and up, or do a whole other swap say rc51 for example which would include the whole front assembly.

Thats kinda what I was thinking. Is the rc51 a commonly used bike to mix and match parts like that from? Or is there a better option for fitment? I dont want to sacrifice the upright seat position (with the elevated bars) and I wasnt sure if there would be a better option for a different bike to mix parts from. Thanks!

    Hi Burton,
-- 5th gen (98 - 01) forks 41mm diameter wont fit in the 6th gens (02 to present) 43mm fork diameter. A lot of guys have gone to RC51 forks if they are going for a major improvement. You would need and '01 lower triple and a 929 upper triple to put it together. Then there is a lot of support gear to aquire - wheels, rotors, fendor, brakes and master cylinder. Then you have to decide on the clip ons too. A few guys have even mounted handle bars using a complete machined upper triple. ---- I have even heard of an R1 conversion.

I dont know what you are after, but anything is doable with time and money and a ton of stubbornness. I did a mild version of a conversion and that was crazy in itself.

    Good luck,
    MD

Thanks a ton. I think I may just hold out for a set of used forks. I just wanna get on and ride and that conversion would def take me some extra time. Thanks! You don't have your old forks laying around anywhere do you?

Is the rc51 lower tripple a direct bolt on. or will it need to be machined other than the steering stems on an 03?

I seem to recall f4i forks are also 43mm, not sure on length though.

The '01 steering stem is the same as the VFR's. Steering stops are something you have to take into concideration.

Really if you are going to do this VFRD is a better resource for info. More guys over there have done this kind of thing.

If you wanted a less involved conversion - you could go F4i lowers and have them mated to your stock VFR upper tubes. Of course then you have to buy all the brakes and gear to go with it.

I used rc51 calipers/front master cylinder on my front end. The rc51 gear will also be a bolt on to the F4i fork lowers if you wanted to go that way. Check my links below for photos and story.

There's a couple threads on this on VFRD, check the modifications or 'check this out' forum. I put the whole RC front end on, the RC steering stem goes right in ('00-'01 SP1) with the RC bearings. I found a set of Cyclecat clipons that are probably between the stock rise and Helibars.
