Ignition Troubles

It's a long holiday weekend up here in CANADA and my '97 won't come out and play.
Battery is fully charged...when i turn the key to ON everything goes dead...even the clock.
When I hook up the charger to the bike to start it I get a clicking from the starter relay.

Hi navig8r01 from down under. I have read your problem and although I am no "EGG SPURT" when it comes to electrics, it sounds like to me that you have dropped a cell or two in your battery? You will have to pull the sucker out and go get it tested. No matter how long you charge it for if its dropped a cell she aint gunna respond. By that baby of yours a new heart so you can relieve your urge.

 

If it will come to life with the charger hooked up and running, I would agree that the battery is the issue, however if it continues to do this even with a known good source of juice, you have other issues.

 

I'd vote for a bad battery. The starter motor draws a few amps. Put a voltmeter accross the battery terminals when you try to start it. The voltage should stay at least 10.0 v. If your battery charger is like mine--1.25 A--the starter motor will overwhelm it at once. Russ

That old reg/rec nightmare came back to haunt me. Replaced it about a month or so ago and I guess it did a real number on my battery. Just replaced my battery with a new and Im back on the prowl(so to speak).
